I doubt you'll see this, but my favorite VR tip is good for normal players, goes double for KZbinrs: 1: Get a small round rug, about 3 ft diameter, and put it in the center of your play space. If you are on the rug, you are in frame and away from walls, mics, cameras, etc. 2: Add a knob to the "front" of the rug with something flat but thick enough to feel through your shoes. Point the knob towards your camera. If you are on the rug and feel for the knob in front of you, you are in frame and facing the camera. Bonus: The rug can help "ground" you, reducing nausea from the sensory deprivation of not physically interacting with the VR objects. Bonus 2: The extra layer of carpeting can help reduce joint fatigue and act as a shock absorber. Don't go too thick, though, or it's like jumping in sand.

Mark! As a very experienced VR user, the best way to get over simulator sickness is to lay down on the ground, flat on your back, not moving. Let your vestibular system take a break and you'll be good. Also, take a break longer than you think you need to, otherwise you'll be right back on the floor, and stop playing as soon as you feel nauseous. It creeps up on you and hits you really fast, which is a great way to puke! Have fun, but please take care of yourself!

Use a fan directly pointing at you - one of the early onsets of the motion sickness is you start to feel hot and if you keep going it'll open the flood gates. Mark! As someone who finished this game fully, I want to tell you some things if you want to play more if this game. The "credits" for the machine is ammo. The entire currency of this game is the ammo, so basically you want to conserve as much ammo if you want to buy cool things later in the game. Also, the weapons you throw in that blue thing at the end of each level means that those weapons are unlocked in sandbox mode, which can be unlocked a couple of ways so you might need to look that up. Another thing as well, I would suggest you to take your time and to not get aggressive or mad at any part because that's what usually causes nausea from my experience anyways

Mark needs to adjust his eye distance, turn off smooth turning, stop turning in real life, and turn on some blinders until he's used to VR. Like this to save this poor bastard from vomiting. Edit: Comments make a good point. He should probably experiment and find his personal best settings. My comment is what got me my VR legs and have adjusted since.
@rootheobserver4 жыл бұрын
eh, it's better if he turned in real life and didn't use artificial turning if he feels sick. Atleast that's how it was for me.
@shapeshiftingpedro4 жыл бұрын
No, using the quick turn buttons at all is a one-way ticket to getting motion sick. Trust me, turning your whole body is the best way to go about it. Mark's just getting motion sick from the smooth walking motion. He's not used to something like that that a game like Pavlov would give him experience in.
@Wanderer_of_Sol4 жыл бұрын
Maybe you guys are right, and it's a personal preference. He should probably experiment with the settings and a few games to find what works for him and will give him his VR legs. Personally, for me, smooth walking is totally fine, but smooth turning in some games feels really jarring, and turning IRL for more than a moment fucks me up. Like if I just need to rotate my body in combat it's fine, but if that's my means of rotation I get sick. Most of the time I like snap turning with smooth walking with no blinders.
@DodgeThatAttack4 жыл бұрын
I would say one biiiig thing is limiting movement, especially turning and whenever possible, minimise the amount of objects that move around you especially when they are at various distances. The more things that are moving, and in different speeds and directions and layers, the more your brain is going to get confused. Whenever doing actions that involve movement, I like to lean slightly in that direction so my brain thinks my movement is contributing to the in-game movement But you also want to minimise shaking and vibrations since that conflicts with my first point and can make things much worse.

wildly moving your head and body aren't what cause motion sickness though, it's the disconnect between your physical body not moving while your virtual one does. Like when he said he had to stop using the in-game turning and needed to physically turn instead.
@Caerigna4 жыл бұрын
@@spartles369 and the disconnect is increased when you move around a great deal, as it creates more and more motion difference and visual miscues (visual lag I think is the usual term I've heard used). It can happen with auditory lag or miscues as well.
@spartles3694 жыл бұрын
@@Caerigna your head and hand movements aren't what trigger it though. You can move them as fast as you want because the world is represented to your eyes the same as reality. Sit in your chair and whip your head around, should have no motion sickness. The sickness is when your virtual body is moving when your physical one is not, or moving in an opposing direction to when you are facing (for example Skyrim's opening scene having you sideways in the cart is an issue). So when you press forward and move in-game, and your body is left standing in reality, that disconnect causes motion sickness, not moving your head/hands.

Not as accurate as the Vive nor does it have a 120hz panel, but considering my GPU wouldn't be able to handle that anyways and only a quarter the price and no setup time, I'd say it was worth it. The only game to make me feel sick at all was Distance which I got from Humble Bundle. Though I was more testing how much it took to make me feel sick than anything else. That game is disorienting on a normal display let alone VR. Considering I could beat a whole 2 stages before it hit me, I'd say I don't struggle with motion sickness, that game was really just a poor choice for VR.

From a sensory perspective you are experiencing motion sickness due to your vestibular system (in control of balance) having a sensory overload. I highly suggest when you get that sick feeling that you push very hard on a solid wall or have someone give you a very tight hug. This is call proprioception and it can help counteract the effects of a sensory overload caused by the vestibular system. Hope you see this so it may help in the future 😁

The game makes me feel weird after playing for a couple of hours, like my arms and hands seem detached, very weird, no other VR game does this to me.
@nicknack1254 жыл бұрын
It's because of how they did the physics for virtual weight - in most games your limbs will track perfectly and won't get stuck on objects. In Boneworks, if you try to push your arm through a wall, your real arm may be completely extended but ingame it won't as the wall will be blocking it - which leads to the feeling of detatchment
@bruhintoshmoment38654 жыл бұрын
@@nicknack125 the amazing thing about the game is how you need to use your imagination to do things efficiently If there is something heavy for instance you need to imagine it being heavy. It's really cool.
@kiosu_batsu4 жыл бұрын
All technically what you all seem to ignore irl, is human brain does this in real life... think about all the times you have tried to pick up something heavy and or empty and overcompensated and we’re surprised by it being either to light or to heavy.. Your perception prior to you doing whatever means a great deal. If you imagine that something is something else other than what it actually is, it is a form of detachment but it is still your own reality to yourself. People do this to everyone and everything and complain while ignoring the fact, it is why racism and everything else exist. You’re imagination is literally battling, what actual reality is at all times subconsciously. It is why stereotypes are so highly acceptable as well, majority rules in favor and people like following trends and not feeling left out, that also by itself encourages more different forms of detachment. Dimensionally speaking it should broaden a individuals perception with that knowledge and experiences. But people tend to go back to old behavior patterns which lead right back to what they assume is a “correct” reality to themselves. What people don’t seem to get is even Albert Einstein stressed the importance of the use of imagination over knowledge, this is mostly due to once a person “thinks” they know something, they no longer try to broaden or learn whatsoever. This is literally applied to a everything in existence, as at this very moment, everyone misses statistically over 95% of all information surrounding themselves while at the same time, almost 87% of all people will be in denial in most cases due to not wanting to be or seem incorrect whether or not they are in their own reality or not, because of that very form of predisposition of their own imagination that they have no idea is filling in 95% of the information we miss because our senses are limited. Which inherently shows how our egos can cause more misinformation then to actual allow real adaptations to our actual reality. Which is quite funny watching, but the unnecessary hatred towards each other for no reason, not so much...

it was supposed to be a fan made half life game but valve stopped them because alyx was obviously in development. But valve asked to keep the build because of how they used physics and had locomotion. Alyx was a completely different game before valve saw boneworks. So you can thank stress level zero for unintentionally helping create one of the best vr games soon to come.
@brandonmoore32834 жыл бұрын
-dyzmo- Where did you get that information?
@sqlevolicious4 жыл бұрын
@@brandonmoore3283 Partially correct, but that is not the whole story. The info comes from a combination of Brandon himself in Node videos, reddit AMAs, and podcasts, and some info is from Tyler from VNN (which is 90% lies). Brandon had a disagreement about VR mechanics with Valve when he got an early play test of a game that would become HLA about 3 years ago. At the time, Vavle had recently been rid of an employee of theirs that was very spoken against on artificial locomotion and was obsessed with VR treadmills. Obviously his opinion become very unpopular when AL was solved the shortly that same year that Valve released their VR kit, the HTC Vive in 2016. So Valve had been a few years behind already on some VR mechanics. Brandon told Vavle he would develop a piece of software, that will prove valve wrong. The speculation on the agreement is that if he succeeded, they should bring him on as a developer (amateur devs do not get to work at Valve), or give him licencing to make a HL-inspired VR game. Valve had already made their mind up far before since they had talks about turning their HL2VR project into a real VR game behind closed doors. So Brandon set out to make a HL-inspired VR game with advanced VR mechanics. Unfortunately, part of what Valve believed was right, that there are not enough advanced VR players for these mechanics to become popular. But what Valve didn't expect is the backlash of people asking for these mechanics. Which is why Alyx went under almost a year of implementing these similar mechanics into their game.

@TheRealAlpha24 жыл бұрын
Tip for any VR game you watch, if the player is moving his head around quickly it's going to lead to motion sickness. You see a lot of motion but the fluid in your inner ear isn't and the dependency is what makes you nauseous, tired, and gives you a headache, so take care to look away from the video occasionally. Sometimes I'll just focus on the face cam for something steady or just away from the screen if you watching on a full screen tv or monitor.
@TheRealAlpha24 жыл бұрын
@@paptart6289 idabled a little in VR but mostly I suffered from a lot of FPS morionsickness. I've wondered if VR developers just don't like the teleport style because it pulls people out of the game to just suddenly leap. There was one game (the name escapes me), I liked the way they handled it: you point to where you want to go and instead of teleporting you would see your character actually run from your spot. It might be immersion breaking, but I thought it was a nice touch, wished more devs did it.
@MidnightSunrise10004 жыл бұрын
Felt that. I get really bad motion sickness during car rides (if not used to the car) and other things besides rollercoasters. This triggered it so much, I even had to pause the video, sleep it off then come back to it. But when I just started playing it again, it acted up again
