exactly, I never cared about directors, I might know a few names, but that's just it, I'd just be hyped about the actors, and I love the actor that does the father of the rich family but I don't even care. I haven't seen such a nice person as Bong Joon Ho in a very long time. I just love him. He's my favorite from this crew. And I also think I like the translator, although it's unfair cause she's getting points from what the crew says xD so I enojoyed the last guy asking about her, she deserved some attention

While we Asians are celebrating him for representing us, Bong himself doesn’t really feel like he’s representing anything. He’s just making film. That’s it. And true, there are many great Asian directors. How humble he is.

@Smirk he is saying Bong doesn't make films thinking, "I'm gonna do this for Korea!" He does it with his own passion and his own artistry, just wanting to create an amazing story to share with the world. It's just a great bonus that he is Asian representing the Asian community and Korea with his talent. His win opened the door for future non-English films to be considered for more than just a foreign title. He even talks about this.

I was presented with the argument that it's not good that Parasite won Best Picture because then that would be ignoring the work that American filmmakers have worked hard for this year. But the truth is, other foreign movies have won Best Picture. They may not have been foreign language but they've been foreign to the U.S. like The King's Speech or Slumdog Millionaire or The Artist. If 1917 won, that would have been a British film winning Best Picture and not an American one anyways. I personally think Parasite was the right choice for Best Picture. It was an original movie about current issues that are still happening today between the classes.
@zthetajulietta81845 жыл бұрын
people are just uncomfortable seeing people unlike them win, they think they 'hand out' awards to people to appease their audience not because they actually created great work that deserved it. my dad stuck his nose up at the "hair love" win. like it was a move that was made only to be politically correct and keep the black community less outraged. or....maybe it was the grandstanding short this year? geesh. I loved kitbull as well, but a story about a little girl frustrated with her 4c hair and daddy having to fill the shoes of mom and the importance of hair for female black women and woman battling illnesses that makes them lose that identifier is an important message. its hard because all the films were good but it's more of the moral question: Are dog fights and animal abuse more important than young black girls accepting their hair? answer: they are all important and it was a subjective and personal taste decision based on the voting of the academy. audiences get all opinionated when a film directed by an AMERICAN black person or predominately black casted film wins the best film or director...but they are American and people still act all racist.
@moonlightstripess5 жыл бұрын
Whoever presented that argument fails to see how the oscars are run and who wins. The oscars has the history of 'bribery' and bias that it already has put a disadvantage for the american filmaker (or actors, actresses, animations, designs teams, etc.). Those who deserve the award don't get rewarded the trophy. This is arare moment where the best film was given appropriately. I believe Parasite was really deserving of this award because tje movie connected to many countries va capitalism; a topic (that I'm aware of) not really tackled by many american filmakers.

The world as a whole is now finally seeing what the appeal is for kdramas and other foreign films or dramas...I personally have look outside of the US for a "new story". Nowadays in America there is no longer a love for the story or message or to entertain. It's now all about politics. Congratulations to Bong Joon Ho and the cast and staff of Parasite!
