Do you think that the 'striking with a ray' ambiguity may relate to whether the planet being dominated is applying to the dominant planet versus seperating? So let's say that Jupiter is in 15º Capricorn and it's forming a square to Mars in 13º Aries. Even though Jupiter is in the dominant position, Mars is applying to Jupiter so it's able to throw something back? This would be different if Jupiter was in 13º Capricorn and Mars was in 15º Aries, since its a separating aspect? idk

Good video and info for the conditions of bonification and maltreatment. But I think that you forgot that only malefics out of sect and benefics of the sect can maltreat and bonify.

I wouldn’t say that those are the ONLY planets that can bonify and maltreat, but a superior trine from the benefic of sect will certainly be stronger than the same aspect from the out of the sect benefic, as one example. Likewise with an opposition from the malefic contrary to sect vs an opposition from the malefic of sect

Could an out-of-sect malefic be bonified through its ruler being its well-placed sect mate? For example, in a night chart, Saturn in Sagittarius 7th being overseen by Jupiter in Aries 11th?

How do bonification and maltreatment relate to reception? Or is reception an overarching concept that encompasses any planet being aspected by the ruler of the sign that it is in?

reception is simply a planet having an aspect with its host, and while it is not a condition of bonification by itself, it is certainly nice to have

Does reception apply only to the benefics and malefics like bonification and maltreatment, or does any planet suffice? For example I have a Mercury in Virgo exactly opposing Mars in Pisces. In the case of reception, should I be looking for Neptune and Jupiter to see how this aspect would play out? Or is the reception the opposition aspect in general. Sorry for bombarding you with questions, appreciate your videos ❤

@@subaruthecar2217 Reception occurs whenever a planet has an aspect of any kind (sextile, square, trine, opposition) with its host, regardless of the planets involved. So a planet in Pisces is received if Jupiter is in any sign that aspects Pisces, just as any planet is received in Leo if the Sun is in any sign that aspects Leo. The idea here is that if a planet has some kind of connection with its domicile lord, then the lord will be more responsive to the requests of its guest. On the other hand, if a planet is averse to its own sign, then it cannot see any planets there, and cannot attend to their needs, similar to an absentee landlord who ignores his tenant's phone calls and allows the property to fall into disrepair. Reception can serve to mitigate hard aspects from malefics if that malefic is also the domicile ruler of the planet it is aspecting. An example would be Mercury in Aries and Mars in Capricorn. With Mars squaring Mercury from above, Mercury would be maltreated, but this is also a case where Mercury is received by Mars, so while this is still a harmful condition for Mercury, I would judge it less harmful because of the reception. For those of you trying to determine whether an aspect is applying or separating, think about the planet's distance from the Sun: the closest to the Sun, the faster a planet moved, since there's less distance. The speed of the Sun is in fact the speed of the Earth, since astrology is based on what we see from Earth. The Moon is the fastest because it orbits the Earth, which is much smaller than the Sun, so it takes less time to go around the Earth.

Hi Matt, does Bonification and maltreatment only applies to native chart? Do they also influence the transit?

I will sometimes look at transits using these conditions but i would hesitate to compare them too much to the natal chart i.e transiting saturn and mars are enclosing my natal venus

Question, what if a malefic is both enclosing a benefic and being enclosed by benefics. The line up being Saturn Venus Mars Jupiter. Her Venus is enclosed by the malefics but is also enclosing Mars at the same time.

One thing you could probably do is just judge the matters related to Mars as being helped by the bonification and the matters related to Venus as being harmed by the maltreatment

Planets will always cast their rays to the same degree they occupy in all of the signs they aspect by sextile, square, trine, and opposition. So for example lets say we have a planet at 7° Aries. That planet will cast its sextile rays to 7° Aquarius and Gemini, its square rays to 7° Capricorn and Cancer, its trine rays to 7° Sagittarius and Leo, and its opposition ray to 7° Libra.
