That is wonderful, its important to harden that butter to stop the dough from running and loosing its form. They are so tasty, if you like more sugar leave out the cornstarch and add more confectionary sugar. Enjoy Bonita

That was a great tip about chilling cookies before baking. I’m going to try that to keep my cut-out cookies from spreading and losing their shape.

This is similar to my mum's recipe, though she didn't put cornstarch in and we use regular, salted, butter as the salt tones down the sweet just a bit. Balances out so to speak.

Thank you Catherine for sharing that with us, you can use salted butter in this recipe but I have only used unsalted at this time. The cornstarch gives it that balance and crumby texture before it blends together, with the flour and confectionary sugar not to sweet, but you can use only confectionary sugar and flour, butter. They will be a little sweeter but as tasty, have a wonderful day and Merry Christmas to you and your family. Bonita

@@bonitaskitchen I'm Canadian too, our are shortbread cookies, Americans like sugar cookies, they spread out like a chocolate chip cookie and are super sweet. Shortbread cookies are leaps and bounds better!
