I read this half a century ago, but I do remember understanding that it was unlike anything I had read before. Isn't it just the best to find "new" stories and authors to love?

yes, and probably the reason I so rarely read new releases - there are too many older books I still haven't read!

Great review! I enjoyed it’s character driven writing, while still following the classic 3 act structure underneath (punctuated by their 2 nights out on the town) - before Anne’s conquer of Raymond - Life Under Anne - Cecile’s plot to conquer Anne

I also enjoyed Cecile’s introspection and constant change of emotion, a hallmark of her age. The end wasn’t pleasant, but we knew this from the title and opening.

Now that you mention it, yes that was enjoyable.

OK, gotta read it! Sounds right up my alley. Apparently she wrote it when she was 18(!). btw, I read over half of murderbot#1 last night ... you were right (as always!).

I just finished this book and i loved it as well. you could feel by the retrospective writing that something was to happen at the end of the book and i loved this tension

Yes, a nice level of suspense that wasn't at the center but hovering in the background. I liked that, too.

I bought this a couple of months ago but haven’t picked it up yet - now I think I will make it my next book. I’m really looking forward to it :-)

I think this book is very misunderstood.

In what way?

@@1book1review I've seen reviews mentioning how the characters lacked development and were annoying. I think they missed the whole point of the book, how it's narrated in a certain way. 🙂

@@lorenzoperrone760 Ah yes, thanks for elaborating.

I've heard such mixed things on this one. yet I had no idea what it was actually about.. Sounds like something I might really like!

Same, I only knew the title, but nothing else and it was such a wonderful surprise how much I ended up liking it.

I loved your review. Françoise Sagan wrote this book when she was 19! She was an incredible talent. I also loved her other book Dear Sarah Bernhardt.

I need to pick up more by her in the future.

is this an easy read!?

I think so. It's rather short and hard to put down.
