What captivated me a ton about this game as a kid was how you could see the late-stage tower in the far background from very early on. When you finally begin to ascend that tower the design matches what it looked like from very far away in the first few levels. No other game at the time had that sort of consistency and it gave the impression of a massive world you were steadily crossing level by level. It wasn't until I first played Shadows of the Empire that I saw this sort of massive traversable world, where you could see off in the distance where you were going, or even far behind you where you just came from.

Nice story. Yeah this game seems to be full of symbolism I bet many kids missed at first glance. The moon has to be significant symbolizing something. I just saw the bonus stage where Bonk headbutts these fireballs! That has to be metaphors. The Japanese put a lot of these big things in games. They tend to be very spiritual and wise. Ain't just child's play..

Capcom has made collections of their games , Sega has made collections of their games and I hope one day we get a Turbografx16 collection for modern gaming consoles. I always have seen Bonk in stores but It's expensive. Cool video. ^_^

(6:14) My high-school friend Jesse always cooked banana bread while going against the first boss, so we said that was the banana bread theme song, haha.
