Hi Rob, you are correct that the green traffic signals in Larkhall have to be protected by wire mesh guards, but the rivalry between Rangers and Celtic is replicated in Edinburgh as well between Hearts and Hibernian football clubs, very much like Manchester City and Manchester united or Newcastle and Sunderland and Spurs and Chelsea it's everywhere. All the Best

The first time I was over there, I spent a month with a Britrail ticket, and toured all over the place. The Rugby world cup was on at the time, and the animosity between Scotland and England was evident. As a Canadian, I couldn't really understand it, but I guess Culloden is still a thing after all these decades.

Don I believe I can say that there is little or no animosity towards scottish people from the English however there is certainly evidence it goes the other way. When it comes to rugby, from an English point of view its healthy competition! Mind you....if they decide to split from the UK let them go but they will have to come up with their own central bank and currency immediately....and paddle their own canoe !

@@RobLittleuk Yes. I noticed the same thing. When in Edinburgh, the Irish were playing. I mentioned I'd have to be careful in the pubs. I was told not to worry, that they were brothers. Not so if the English were playing. Then down in London, in a pub watching TV, the English folks were all cheering on Scotland!
@RobLittleukАй бұрын
@@dlittlesteryes we would cheer on one of the other countries eg even if Ireland were playing France we would cheer on France. If England was playing France, Ireland, Scotland and Wales would cheer for France. It’s hilarious!! Mind you if it was war…..we all close down!!

Tough subject to reflect on, Rob. Having lived in Glasgow for 2 years I can honestly say they are some of the most friendly people I’ve met. I was made vey welcome. Though I never broached the history behind this subject there was an underlying sense of it lingering. More importantly how was the cauliflower cheese?

Not tried it yet but looking forward to it being on the meal list! I agree most people in Scotland are very friendly - when I went round on the YB100 I was met with great friendship!

The animosity between Celtic and Rangers fans has nothing to do with football. It's knuckle dragging sectarian tribalism. If they banned football they'd switch tyeir allegiance to snail racing,once side favouring snails with shells,the other side snails of the shellless variety. Sassenach is not a derogatory word for anyone,it means lowlander and applies to anyone south of Perth.

Perth Scotland. Not the Australian Perth. Which would make penguins sassenachs.

@@k1ckyscotland988 It's similar with AFL here in Perth, Australia, though fortunately there's no religious affiliations to exacerbate things. The tribalism between the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles is legendary and when they have the local derby match, the on-field action gets a bit heated. Fortunately, the fans just get verbal and basically just good fun.
