Greetings from a Bonneville Salt Flats fan. I recently did a video of our visit to this remarkable place. I am amazed by it. Love your video and appreciate your hard work. I started my own travel channel in January and look forward to hitting 1000 subs and the 4000 watch hours. I love the challenge and especially enjoy sharing this gorgeous country with as many people as I can. I have gobs of information and experience because I’ve traveled this country fulltime for over 31 years and been to over 250 National Parks and hundreds of State Parks and other public hiking locations. Safe travels to you and yours. Edit on!

@@GoTravelOnTheCheap Death Valley is my #1. Yellowstone #2. Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site is my favorite small park. It is in Colorado. Custer State Park in South Dakota is the best state park in my opinion. The Everglades National Park is wonderful in January, but not so great in the summer. Learned that the hard way. All the Boston heritage related parks are amazing. Edison's in New Jersey was MONUMENTAL! I love walking where famous people lived, worked, and made history. How about you, what ones do you like most?

@@UnclassicRoadTrip-hj5pv Very cool! We have yet to visit Death Valley, but it is on our list. We love Custer State Park! Have you been able to attend the bison round-up? We will Bent's and Edison's to our list; thanks. We love Capitol Reef and Lassen Volcanic National Parks--we thoroughly enjoy those that are not so crowded. We love Franconia Notch State Park in NH in October and Bannack State Park in MT for their Bannack Days in July. Have you been to Kodachrome here in UT yet?

How far into the salt flats can you drive? Any recommended spots to capture the Milky Way at night?
@GoTravelOnTheCheap2 жыл бұрын
If you are at the Speedway, you can drive rather far since that is where they do land-speed testing. For the Milky Way, it would depend on what direction you are heading...? (Bryce Canyon and/or Capitol Reef are two of our most favorite spots for the night sky)

Planning to go salt flats tomorrow - can I drive on salt flats with my 2020 Subaru legacy (tires are ok okayish, decent but not great) ? I have an infant and in-laws, so wanted to check if it is really safe. Also what route should I be taking if I am coming from Salt Lake city to get best view ? Thanks in advance
@GoTravelOnTheCheap Жыл бұрын
You should be fine with your car, as long as you take appropriate precaution. Do not pull onto the salt flats anywhere off of I-80 because some parts of the flats are not unstable. Coming from SLC, you want to get off at the Bonneville Speedway exit, which is after the rest area. You'll want to get your car washed shortly thereafter though, rinse your undercarriage. Have fun, and let us know if you have any more questions!

Any rules? Can I just get off the free way and let my car rip? Or do races? Always wanted to test how fast my car can go, safety of course
@GoTravelOnTheCheap2 жыл бұрын
Our suggestion is to go to the Bonneville Speedway instead of the area right by the rest stop. There is much more area you can cover by the Speedway. Parts by the freeway can be very soft. Of course, we highly suggest exercising extreme caution before going too fast--making sure no one is anywhere around, etc. What kind of car do you have?
@SKS8080 Жыл бұрын
If it safe to drive a rental car through there?
@GoTravelOnTheCheap Жыл бұрын
If you choose to do so, make sure to use extreme caution and wash the car--including the undercarriage--thoroughly afterwards. Only drive on the salt flats at the Bonneville Speedway area, NOT just off the interstate as there are spots that may look safe enough to drive on, but are extremely soft and the car will start to sink. Hope ya have fun, whatever you decide to do! 😀
