The NY snobs have it in for Wildhorn. They always trash his shows and they almost always flop. However, they tend to take a life of their own regionally, locally, internationally, and on tour, so they are successful elsewhere, just not on Broadway, where Wildhorn is persona non grata. If another composer had been attached to the project, I'm willing to bet the critics might have embraced it. God knows the show got stellar reviews out of town.
