The man who helped Charles escape to France was Neil McEachren, my direct paternal ancestor. Neil changed his name to McDonald once they arrived in Paris to disguise his family. His oldest son, became one of France's most famous military leaders and was one of Napoleon's top Marshalls. He was partially responsible for saving Napoleon's life by suggesting exile rather than execution. There is a massive monument to him outside the Louvre. My family ended up fleeing from Islay in 1738 and settled in America.

I liked your video, you presented it in a nice, informative way but I have to correct you on one important point. It's a common misconception that the Prince and Flora MacDonald sailed from the mainland to Skye. That's incorrect as the Prince had at that time made his way to the Outer Hebrides in an effort to evade the British forces. Flora, in fact, helped him escape from the island of Benbecula across to Skye on 27th June 1746 disguised, as you say, as her spinning maid Betty Burke. While Flora was by no means a Jacobite sympathiser she took great personal risk in that her step-father and fiance were officers in the British army and she would soon spend some time in the Tower of London for her part assisting the Prince.

Love the passionate history piece, the presentation and its wonderful locations but might be an idea to re-edit those confusing dates to camera - i.e Prince Charlie first setting foot in Scotland in 1746, but raising his Stuart standard on 19th Aug 1745? Most of all, departing for France in 1946! Still, loved it.

Bonnie Prince Charlie went to America and built his red brick house across from the original Capitol of Ametica on Chestnut Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Flora and Charlie were married by Rev McGregor. Their son was the one who inherited the Stuart House on Chrstnut. Bonnie Prince Charlie died like his Fathet at the Brasilia Chapel where his half brother Henry was Archbishop. BTW he and his Father died doing very heroic deeds.

Hey there, thank you for the comment! Yes, the French were not inclined to send over troops to England until the rebellion showed some success. This is why Charles was certain that French support would be underway when the army reached Derby. The Stuart claim however was indeed supported by Louis when Charles left for Scotland :)

@@jasonjack1564 Hi Jason. There is a very good KZbin video called "Whatever happened to Bonnie Prince Charlie" by Gordon's Scotland that discusses Charlie's relationships with his mistresses and his daughter Charlotte. Regarding succession to the Scottish throne I think it would take an army of experts to unravel that one! I'm sure you would find claimants coming from all corners of the globe. 😁 You have to consider also that an independent Scotland may not want a Monarchy but it's certainly a whole new topic of discussion. "restore his father back on the throne"? His father never was on the throne. Also to say that the act of proscription was passed by the English government is a nonsense. There hasn't been an English government since 1707. Also, General Wade didn't build any military roads in Scotland 'after 1745'. What you've done, basically, is swallow the whole CES myth and regurgitated it will little critical thinking. He was a Polish Italian fop whose support in Scotland was tiny and whose failed military campaign was doomed from the start. You also didn't examine that his father's claim to the throne was entirely spurious since, after James Duke of York was removed from the throne, his title was passed to his daughter, Mary, and her husband. Basically CES was pretty-much forgotten until the late 19th C when some idiots revived his memory and embellished a myth out of what was a small, shabby and unjustifiable attempted putsch.
