So true. Some musicians can emote through their instruments, and Hornsby is definitely one of them. I recently listened to an old Journey song, Send Her My Love, and Neil Schon does the same thing with an electric guitar (not an instrument you think of as emotional lol) in that song. The guitar solo sounds almost wistful.

Amen!!! I listened to her landmark album (Luck of the Draw, 1991) over and over as a young (but aged) guy in my my junior year of college at Georgia Tech. She is absolutely remarkable. And Bruce Hornsby is a criminally underrated and acknowledged. The two combined are a dynamic, super talented north star that should have far more accolades. They both deserves Kennedy Center recognition and places in appropriate music halls of fame.

I read that when she recorded this song, she basically did it in one take. I also read that the writers of the song had written a different part for the piano but Bruce Hornsby improvised on it and just took it to another level. What incredibly talented artists ❤.

@@melatomic Correct. Mike Reid wrote this along with Alan Shamblin while they wrote songs in Nashvile. Before that, Reid attended college in Pennsylvania where he studied music and played football for th Cincinnati Bengals. It was on his first album "Walk On Faith" in '91/92.

This is one of the finest songs ever written, thank you Bonnie Raitt. Great vocal. Bruce Hornsby played beautifully and was fully featured (btw. he started as Linda Ronstadts pianist) but yet again Bonnie missed the chance to demo her lead guitarist /slide guitar mastery on an important occasion of record. Like many great women she is naive about self promotion/ getting full recognition for real talent. This was definitely the place for that.
