I start crying whenever I hear the opening chords to this song. I first heard it when I was a preteen being abused at home. I didn’t know a thing about romantic love but the first time I heard it, I was in public and completely broke down. I could never make my family love me and to this day, there’s no greater wound I carry. When people say, “This song saved my life,” this is the one that had that effect on me. It gave me the words and expression of pain and betrayal that I was too young to conjure up. Bonnie Raitt has a very special place in my heart because she also showed me I could write through my pain & loneliness. I just LOVE that Sheryl & Brandi are the ones covering this song. They’ve each touched my heart in a real way as well. This video was a gift to me on Christmas Eve, which has always been a time of deep sorrow for me. ❤ Thank you!

I can't imagine the pain you describe in your life, but I feel for you. I love Bonnie Raitt's music and share your sentiment about Sheryl and Brandi presenting it because I have faced my own extremely lonely and low times. Oner of Sheryl's songs impacted me first about 20 years ago and more recently, one of Brandi's songs help me ascend out of the lowest point of my life (ten years ago). I pray for you, as I pray every morning for others, that you feel and know that you are loved. The love that brings you comfort and strength to live your life. Peace to you.
