For your mom, have her get her thyroid checked as we get older it can change how it works and it can cause hair loss as can some vitamin deficiencies that can happen when getting older.

Has your mom gone through menopause? Some women have more hair loss or thinning around that time or after. That happened to my aunt. In her case, she was imbalanced in estrogen and progesterone, took hormone replacement therapy and her hair seemed to get a bit thicker. But the doctor said in some cases no treatment would help, its just a natural part of aging for some women. She should definitely have her hormones levels tested though.

my mom is a hairdresser and my grandma had a similar experience with her hair, and my mom explained to me that her hair was replenishing and thinning out. for your mom that may be the case, or maybe her hairline is receding. my mom said nioxin shampoo and conditioner helps with very thin hair and my grandmas hair is so much stronger using nioxin. although everybody’s hair type is different, i hope this can help!

I'm 22 but I've gone through small spots of hair loss and even small patches of baldness due to a chronic autoimmune disease (under active thyroid) and alopecia. It does grow back (I've also known older women that have experienced the same), I recommend using more natural hair products with less harsh chemicals in, and not over using products on your hair or heat styling. Hair loss or thinning genuinely can be quite a common thing though as you age.

I have had a similar problem with hair loss. I have been using Bosley Shampoo and conditioner for several years along with vitamins for hair and nails. I used the shampoo and conditioner everyday for about 6 months and then switched to every other day. I wash my hair with regular shampoo the other days. I have been very happy with the results!

I went through hair loss when I went through menopause. I also lost more hair when my thyroid went wonky. I used organic cold pressed castor oil on my hair twice a week for a year. my hair grew back thicker and I haven't lost any since. I warmed a little castor oil, put it on my hair and then a shower cap and let it stay all night. The next day I washed it really good with an organic rosemary shampoo. I still do warm oil treatments, but just once a month now

My mom went through some hair loss, and I imagine she’s about your mom’s age or a tad older (she 59 this year). She stopped dying her hair with chemical dyes, and started washing her hair with her head upside down and it started to grow back some. Her hair volume isn’t where it was 15 years ago, but she’s no longer shedding a huge amount.

Lincoln looks so much like my son. My son is about to turn two and he hasn't yet started talking, he is in speach therapy but man it is hard as a mother. He gets so frustrated because he can't communicate. Watching Lincoln I imagine what it will be like when my boy starts talking and my heart just explodes with joy. I absolutely love your family

I was losing my hair and it ended up being low iron. I had standard blood work done and it didn’t catch it but when I went to the dermatologist they did. An iron supplement made a huge difference. Do some research though, some are less constipating than others.

I'm not your mom's age but I have gone through (& still am) hair loss, menopause is causing mine & it DOES grow back! I have lots of regrowth, that's a good sign! My hair used to be so thick & gorgeous, now it's thin & lifeless 😣 Low vitamin D & low folate can also cause hair loss

Even though I’m in my 20s my hair has been falling out. I went to the doctors about it and got told that your hair goes through a 3 month cycle so if 3 months prior something has been really stressful your hair will fall out then grow back.

Oh my YES....I am older than your mom...but I went thru hairloss and it was my thyroid....so you might want to have it checked out. Now that I'm on the right dosage -- which takes awhile to figure out...my hair is growing back...my hair has never been thick and to lose the thin hair I already had was very frustrating....so I have my dr. watch it very closely!!

Bonnie- I am a licensed cosmetologist, and my grandmother was suffering hair loss. Paul Mitchell has a tea tree anti thining shampoo and it works! There are tons of baby hairs! She loves and it I can see she’s no longer embarrassed of her hair! I hope it helps your mom

I am not your Moms age but occasionally have battles with hair loss (and the horrible regrow the with those baby hairs). For me it’s caused by anemia. I’ve always been anemic and when I shower or brush my hair and I have lots of hair come out I know it’s time to up my iron intake.

My Aunt had the same issue with hair loss. She went to her obgyn and they did blood work. They found out her hormones we all messed up.They got her hormones back in track. She has not noticed any hair loss since. That might me something to check out. My aunt is probably the same age as your mother. Best of luck!
