Just a little piece of advice from a children's psychologist (me): whenever the stress of a child is so high that she cries uncontrolably, shakes or freakes out you should stop with what you are doing. That amount of stress, especially if it has something to do with fysical boundaries (it is her body and her right to say no) you should be very careful and not push a young child for fourty minuts. This can be potentially traumatizing. Sorry for my poor English but i am from the Netherlands.... I understand that you don't know what to do as a parent in some situations, but remember that a little bit of crying or little scared is okay but a high amount of stress in combination with fysical boundaries can be damaging. You should learn a child that when something doesnt feel right, they have te right to say no. Encourage that! When someone touches her later and it doesn't feel right, you want her to say NO, right? She is emotionally a little too young. Not every seven year old is 'old' enough for this. Try it again a few years later... I dont blame you at all! Being a parent is probably one of the hardest tasks in life.... love you all!

Bonnie and Joel did not force Olivia to do anything, she really wanted her ears pierced so they took her. Obviously they were going to be frustrated because she wanted them so bad then acted like this. They were trying to comfort her and didn't want her to regret not getting them. I see nothing wrong with this. Bonnie and Joel, you are amazing parents and these comments don't change that.

She wanted them pierced until she saw someone else getting their's pierced. She was very clear from that moment that she changed her mind. That was even before they picked out the earings and paid for them. She screamed and cried that she had changed her mind. They forced her to go ahead with it and that is why she was unwilling to cooperate. It was not her fault in the least. Parents need to know when to accept that the child changed their mind and is fearful. If it was something that there was no option with and had to be done then that's another story. Ear piercing can always wait till a future date.

LinnnaaaLynne Love yes, I mean fully ready. It was a traumatic experience for her, you can see that she is even crying a little when Bonnie wanted to pierce the dolly's ear. Being pressured of the situation at Claire's (not by parents or so, the situation) of course it's easy to change the mind but in the end to say no. She probably won't be ready when she is 8, but now she know the fear she is facing, before she didn't know. :)

I think parenting has changed so much since I was a kid. If I begged my mom to get my ears pierced and she took me to get them done and paid for the earrings, she would have done the same thing. And same for when Bonnie took her doll away. People complain about creators sharing things like this but when they dont people say their fake. For one there is no perfect way to parent. I've learned a lot from their videos. Bonnie's kids are very well behaved, because they respect her as a disciplinarian. In this situation they knew how bad she wanted to get them done, but they knew her fear was getting away so they were trying to help her past that. If she would have done it, she probably would have been very happy with them.
@desteni19927 жыл бұрын
Ciara Finally someone who isnt bashing their every decision!! I agree, people act like them taking her doll away was such a horrible thing. They are doing the right thing so she didnt pick her skin and cause bleeding and pain and everything else. all they did was take a doll away. some parents discipline by much worse punishment. Plus when i got my ears pierced my mom wouldnt have gave me the second chance and paid for a second set of earrings the same day yet people think they are horrible becuase they were trying to help her through it. once its done and the pain is gone, she would have been happy and they knew that

Ciara Bonnie handle this situation well! If it were me, my mom would have spanked my butt right in the store, marched me out to the car, taken me home, and grounded me.... Bonnie was upset, but she made sure to let Olivia know she wouldn't hate her or be disappointed if she didn't get them done. Bonnie is a wonderful mother! She did nothing wrong in this video or when she took the doll away a few weeks ago.

Ciara haha I agree, people want to have kids they are proud of but don't want to do the hard work that goes into it. I am 26, so if I asked my parents to get my ears done at 7 they would have started out warning me that once they pay for it that it is going down and I could pick if it was the nice way or the hard way. I was never even spanked as a child so everyone is way too soft. She shouldn't get a different reward either she spoiled this one for herself and it is just a lesson learned. I am sure she will be up for it again on her Birthday and they can try again.

Often times, especially for kids, people don't know what they signed up for until it's a done deal, and that's what happened here. I know she said she wanted to, but she didn't fully realize what was going to happen until it was real. She even said she didn't want to anymore before Bonnie told the employees she wanted her ears pierced. Regardless, it's strange to me that they recorded this, let alone uploaded it. If I were Olivia, I would feel very embarrassed and mad at my parents for recording and uploading such a personal family mishap. This is how anxiety disorders start.

Ear piercing is SO permanent, it is somebody punching a hole through your skin. She is only almost 8. if she was scared or changed why is she not allowed to change her mind? Adults change their mind all of the time. I see nothing wrong to let her have her feelings, show compassion and let her know in her time of fear you will not be angry at her. If Bonnie had to pay for the earnings maybe she can use them when she decides to get them done. I didn't see an attitude from Olivia, I saw a very scared little sweetie. We can always encourage them to politely decline. As parents we want to be graceful with our children

My comment was made after I read so many comments saying O was misbehaving, and commenters saying they would have made her go through with it, etc. It wasn't necessarily meant toward Bonnie. Thank you for comments on my comment. :) yes, I am aware she was at home with no ears pierced in the end. Devedre, well actually Bonnie did not "have" to buy those two sets of earrings. She chose too. Throwing a fit? Eh, I think O was trying to be heard, and had many feelings emotions going on. Have you ever wanted something or wanted to do something but, too afraid to do it? It's a brand new day. I hope everyone is filled with joy today and everyday.
@lizaluhamblin17 жыл бұрын
I don't usually comment but I really wanted to ask that the next time she wants to get her ears pierced PLEASE go to an actual piercing shop. It is for her safety above all else. Places like Claire's are unable to sterilize the piercing guns prior to every customer whereas all equipment used at a piercing shop is brand new for each customer. In addition piercing at a shop is WAY less painful. The guns at Claire's basically rip through the ear but at a shop the needle is hollow and it basically removes the tiniest hole to make room for the earring. We just recently took our 3 year old daughter to get hers pierced and she barely flinched when he did the first ear and had no reaction when he did the second. Plus they will heal better.

I honestly don't blame her for freaking out. I would too if someone came at me with piercing guns. They use blunt force to put a dull piece of metal through the ear, not to mention the length of the earring is too short to make room for swelling and makes cleaning uncomfortable and sometimes impossible. It's a lot healthier and safer to go to a certified body piercer so a single- use hollow point needle can be used.

I'm in the same anti-Claire's boat as many others, but I'm just going to say that even if you get it done at Claire's, NEVER let them do two guns at once. I got mine pierced at Claire's when I was Olivia's age with the two guns, but one went off right before the other and caused me to tilt my head slightly to one side so the other side ended up extremely low. Less than 6 months later, my earring got caught slightly on my shirt and ripped right out of my ear. The doctors weren't able to close it, so I still have what looks like a mouse bite taken out of my ear. I ended up having them repierced by a plastic surgeon as a teenager and am extremely pleased with the results many years later.
@21_f_aus7 жыл бұрын
wow when mine were at 16years of age the ladies at the hair dresser done 2 guns at the exact same time that's how it's normally done or how it should be done, atleast your ears got fixed up now though they should be more careful when doing it if they're doing it at the same time should be at the exact same time, if not things like what you experienced could happen :(
@AyselGwynith7 жыл бұрын
I am wondering, why didn't you take it out immediately? It heals within a couple of weeks and you can just get it done again. And get your money back, because they made the mistake! I would not be walking around with asymmetrically pierced ears.

"Go downstairs and love her." 😭😭😭(then I cry bc I didn't think of that first bc I was so upset that TWICE we tried only bc she wanted it done). 😌 But, I would tell mine that she isn't allowed to ask again until she's 10. 😂☺️😌😌

constantinople cat well, every parent has their own way of parenting and their own way of doing things, there is nothing wrong with that. I just wish they would realize that she may have anxiety so they can help her!:)
@21_f_aus7 жыл бұрын
yeah I think you're right there, I have Anxiety myself, but I do think if she has a friend or cousin with her to get her ears done and closes her eyes it may help with the fear, when she's ready to do it she will. I was scared myself when I got my ears done at aged 16 but I just done it and was done so quick, I hope they can find a way to help her even by her seeing a professional whether she has Anxiety or not can help her face her fear.

I can't believe people still take their kids to get their ears pierced at Claire's ☹️ the chance of infection and traumatic cysts are so high... I know from experience unfortunately
@janeyork89727 жыл бұрын
This was hard to watch. She clearly is not ready. I can't imagine my child crying and begging that something not be done to her body (and something cosmetic at that!) and not immediately honor her request. Maybe a few years down the line she'll feel differently but hold off for now.
@janeyork89727 жыл бұрын
Yes, and then she said "no." It is SO important that we teach our girls that when they say "no" to something being done to their bodies, their demands should be immediately adhered it. Olivia said yes and then she said NO. At that point, everything should have stopped.
@SarahBevElizabeth7 жыл бұрын
Jane York I cringed when she told her to do it so she would make the ladies mad.... it seems unrealistic but this is how girls start getting ideas that they need to please other people over their own well being. And then men.

Please go to a professional next time. Claire's is a terrible place to get piercings done. I got my cartilage pierced there and they went through a vein. They have no idea what they are doing.
@carlygoss23487 жыл бұрын
Aimmer R I'm so sorry but you yourself do not know what you're talking about. There is no vein in your cartilage. Only reason it would bleed would be due to an underlying medical condition which you may not be aware of. I myself work for claires and I can tell you we are sent for training for a minimum of 3 months...
@SarahFirestonee7 жыл бұрын
Aimmer R I agree. I have a friend that works in a tattoo shop and when my daughter is old enough to decide she wants her ears pierced, we are going there to get them done. Claire's employees only have to watch ONE video on ear piercing with that gun and then they're good to go poke holes in your child's body. no thanks.
@carlygoss23487 жыл бұрын
Sarah Firestone yet again. Not true
@Alyssa-ke9xm7 жыл бұрын
It's not Claire's, it's piercing guns in general that can be the problem, especially for cartilgae. A lobe is one thing but you should never pierce your cartilage with a gun. It's extremely unsafe and can cause permanent damage to that part of your ear. Any piercer, whether in Claire's or a professional shop can make a mistake and hit a vein, that's a risk you take if you want a piercing, which is why you or an adult if underage have to sign a consent form. A Claire's employee learns to pierce ears with what equipment they're given, it's not their fault of it's not the safest option.
@sweetcanada177 жыл бұрын
I agree with Alyssa. Earlobes are usually fine when pierced with a gun. I got my earlobes pierced 15 years ago with a gun. I'm fine. But when I got my cartilage pierced with a gun, I was in trouble. That did a lot of damage. I even had to spend some time in the hospital after a sepsis had set in. I'm getting it re-done in one year. But at a tattoo and piercing parlour.

I worked at Claire's for 2 years. The first time a child says the words "I don't want to do it" 99% of the time it's impossible to pierce them. Honestly as soon as she says that, it's time to go.

I think that as a mom Bonnie didn't know how to handle the situation. On the other hand Bonnie shouldn't have waited 40 minutes we'll Olivia was scared half to death. You should listen when your child says no. I was discussed when you said Olivia was being naughty. What made the situation even worse was that you were filming this, this is supposed to be a private thing with your daughter. I love this channel and I love this family but I totally disagree with how this situation was handled.
