Repotting is one of the most important-and perhaps the most daunting-processes in the sphere of bonsai practice. We're here to help: repotting your bonsai doesn't have to be scary. In this episode, follow along as Josh completes the first repotting of his Taxus cuspidata. Build your skills in removing trees from their container, working and shaping a bonsai root system, and ensuring that your new bonsai soil is fully distributed throughout your tree's root system for optimal growth success.
To learn more about repotting and elevate your bonsai practice, start your free trial of Mirai Live at live.bonsaimirai.com.

My soils are: Perlite and safeTsorb for deciduous trees and works wonders. I only use akadama for the aesthetics on the surface of the pot. I also have tried 100% akadama on my Alberta spruce and work just fine.

Love the videos but this class is very specific to the northern hemisphere. Here in Colombia we have location (along the equator), the height (1850 above sea level), and the fact that it is spring time all year long. The temps go from 17c - 22c almost year long.

30 percent for conifers. What about deciduous?
@ErikPukinskis
@ErikPukinskis 4 жыл бұрын
It's interesting that you leave 30% of the root mass "unchopsticked".... I have seen other folks successfully bare root the trees... would be interested to know what the risks are there!

You talk about importance of oxygen for the roots of a tree. From my school biology, trees and the majority of plants take in oxygen through their leaf pores for photosynthesis in sunlight and only essential nutrients and water are taken by the root system. Please explain - perhaps you should emphasise the importance of avoiding root soaking or dessication instead of oxygen importance
@maxjenkem3993
@maxjenkem3993 Жыл бұрын
Leaf stomata intake carbon dioxide for photosynthesis, and respire oxygen. Your basic school biology needs a refresh.

@@sumobonsaisupply6976 You won't find any Japanese pronouncing it that way. And in any case, Kanji is not 'pronouncable'... unlike Hiragana and Katakana, which are syllabic.
