🌱 Repotting The Oak Bonsai
In this video I am repotting my Oak Bonsai. I have had this Oak from seedling, and now five years on here it is in good health!
I have decided to use my own experimental soil mix again.
I use plastering mesh to cover the holes In the Pot to reduce the soil mix going Through.
I then secure with wire to the pot. so I am able to hold the Oak Into choosen position and support It Into the growing season while It makes some new roots!

Very interesting and informative video Sam. I’m doing my first repot of 6 oaks I grew from acorns Tony sent me this spring. Here in Connecticut we’re still frozen solid. Your tree looks like it’s off to a great start. Looking forward to seeing updates. Thanks, keep, growing

Thanks Matt, that’s was really nice of him to send. You’ll love the English oak smaller leaves than your local trees I’m sure although slower growing! Hope things warm up for you soon!

Nice. I also have a three/four year old oak grown from seed that I need to check and remove any tap root from. This was a timely reminder for me 🙏

I have definitely missed watching your latest comment. I love that oak - what an icnredible root base and the natural movement in the trunk is aawesome. I have loads of oaks and just love how easy they are to work with :)

I planted quite a few acorns in a large garden pot last year and most of them came up. Would you suggest splitting them out to individual pots this year or to leave them together in the big pot for another year?

Hi Jane, Did they germinate last spring and have the season growing? If there really densely planted and of concern you may get away with gently breaking them apart. Best practice maybe to up the pot size for the whole lot give them a little more room and break them up next spring with a little root prune. With out seeing them it’s a little hard to judge 🌱

Oak tend to grow a big tap root. Trim that off as it will be a thick downward growing root. I potted mine on into pond baskets which gave great drainage and aeration to the roots. This season they have masses of fine healthy feeder roots. 👍
