I understand why you wet the towels you covered the foliage with before burning the dead wood, but I would be very careful. Water is a conductor of heat, which means that by adding water, the paper towels will get much hotter faster than if they were exposed to heat without being wet. This statement may seem ridiculous, insane and completely wrong, but please read carefully. I am speaking of HEAT, not FLAME. Heat is transferred much more quickly and strongly through water. Yes, a dry towel will catch on fire when exposed to flame, but a wet towel will heat up much fast than a dry one when exposed to the same source of heat. I would recommend using a material that is an insulator. Aluminum foil is a great alternative. It doesn't radiate any of the heat it is exposed to, and it protects the foliage from the flames just as good, if not better, than towels. I know that your method works just fine, but I thought I'd share since if you were to use the torch for a long period of time it could end up drying out the foliage in some places that were exposed to the heat for too long. Great work by the way! Tree looks great!

Thanks for the comment. what you say is correct in broad terms. Here in the example, first the vegetation was wet and then the absorbent paper. the flame is not so powerful as to create problems with the steam which could gradually break on the vegetation, damaging it. The trick, regardless of what is used to protect the vegetation, is to always move to the different points of the trunk with the flame, making sure not to concentrate the increase of heat in a certain point. Then there are different methods of cleaning the wood fibers, then we will deal with them abundantly in the video courses. Thanks for the comment and participation on Michelangelo Bonsai.

Nei cipressi, soprattutto le zone con una buona quantità di vegetazione, la vena linfatica tende a rigonfiarsi leggermente. Non a livello dei ginepri o dei tassi, ma un occhio esperto riesce a riconoscerne il suo tragitto. In questi casi poi asta lasciare alcuni centimetri in più di tolleranza e i rischi si sono azzerati.

Yes Phil, you are absolutely right. This was an example, in other videos I did devere other examples instead. Old shirts and other material to be recycled. Normally I never use tear-off paper, but some might use it for lack of anything else.
