Bonsai Tools: Choosing a Bonsai Shear

You can use a cloth with oil to add a light oil surface to metal tools to prevent rusting. Many people usually leave tools in the garage so in some northeast/southern states the humidity from the summer can cause rust so I'd recommend oiling your tools.

I would avoid using the nicer shears to trim the roots. Sometimes you can hit a rock and damage the shear. You can use the all-purpose shear. However, if you're cutting a large root, I'd go with a root cutter. Hope this helps! :)
