I think the beauty of bonsai is that you get to see everyone's own style of work, if everyone's style was the same it would be boring, plus it's your trees so you can do what you want with it.

Your technique is superb. After all, your trees show it. Grow & clip is my method of choice also. Excellent video as always!

What an interesting video you made! thanks for the update. i'm also starting to have this mentality that if i want drastic trees, i need to make a drastic cut

Hi Milton, I have also done the same thing as long as it still has a life line connection to the tree from below the branch for feeding, you have to be careful to remember what you have done as the branch will be weaker than the other branches, I see you don't use cut past to seal the wound. Thanks again Milton a very useful video, btw I too was scared of working with black pines and there is no reason to be.

dad has been saying to be ready for November. i will start cuting & shaping his pines! i'm hoping he will let me have Carte Blanche to cut and shape as "I" see the beauty. who knows... he'll probably tell me i'm wrong and not traditional, but...??? if not, i will like a bird set free to fly free with "My Concepts"!! beauty is in the eyes of the beholder!!

Great video. Would you potentially be open to creating a comprehensive video on branching? Like, is there more to it than just following the basic bonsai branching rules, cutting to shape, and using a little intuition as to how the specific tree will react and grow?
@MiltonChang-ee6rq2 ай бұрын
Yes! I will. I learn a lot buy doing these videos because I have to think through things to explain. I finally know why I did what I did to pine. Give to get! Please stay tuned and tell a friend about our channel. Thanks!

it might be useful to include some sort of overlaying graphic of the brachiation you envision, and maybe the changes you make as you go on. It could be just some simple stick figure overlay. You include a lot of nice graphics in your videos and I bet that wouldn’t be hard for you and your team.
@timmywood96772 ай бұрын
You could also hollow out and carve the bottom of the branch or trunk and use a large wire to bend the trunk or branch

Is there an estimate date for when your trees will be available for purchase on your website? I'm excited! :D

I liked what you did with the first pine, I have a kotobuki pine and I plan to do pretty much the same thing, but I want the trunk to be a little thicker, so I haven't cut the top off yet.
@MiltonChang-ee6rq2 ай бұрын
Great approach.... The more branch you keep the faster the trunk thickens and tapers...can always make redundant branch into jin.

I would like to add a small suggestion for the videos. I don’t know if the bird sounds are added during editing but if they are can the volume be reduced. On many of the videos the bird sounds become a distraction. I am very sorry for this comment because it is not positive but I enjoy the content very much and thank you for sharing.

I acquired a 25 year old black pine bonsai that has stretched out a lot. I have been pinching the candles and cutting the longer branches to try to promote back budding so I can bring the growth closer to the trunk, any advice anyone.
@danhip24422 ай бұрын
you just cut the branches to the three-year line of needles and the tree always produces buds?:)
@MiltonChang-ee6rq2 ай бұрын
I am not sure what is a three year line... The point is it will bud (a cluster of candle will emerge) where you cut it... if there is needle below. In life...often "give to get." Having to explain in the video makes me think...to develop new awareness. It is now perfectly clear how to make uniformly short needle. I will do a tutorial video on that subject. I think you will like it *
@danhip24422 ай бұрын
@@MiltonChang-ee6rq Where this year's candle grows, there are last year's needles below. Usually they cut only to this line. But I seem to see that you cut even lower, to the 3-year-old needles.

devils advocate I guess but you are pretty brutal to them. Theres a person inside of us that actually hates plants in a way... or how else could anyone actually do bonsai. Just as a sculpture chips away stone or potter molds clay. You have t beat the tar out of it. Its a war with nature but also we bow to our opponent and respect its power.
