This is an update of that Tamarind we ringed back about a year ago which purpose was to thicken the trunk as well as shorten the trunk by decreasing the original roots and replacing it with the new roots that would be growing higher up the trunk.

Did you planted the old trunk and roots? I do believe it will give you a new plant. This poor tamarind went through a lot but I hope you will achieve your goal in the end. Masyadong matrabaho kuya but it will be worth it.

Wow, superb... Its magnificent 😊😊☺😇 Dear my banyan bonsai is not growing its branches & its ramifications since 11 to 12 years, its structure is just like a straight bamboo, it has very small and just 3 lil branches, what should i do to grow its more n more ramifications and at a faster rate and make its structure more dense?
@BonsaiIligan
@BonsaiIligan 8 жыл бұрын
To grow more branches you have to give it more soil ( a bigger container), allow the new shoots to grow thick first to become branches before pruning them. once you have branches you can frequently prune to ramify. Growing aerial roots needs a moist condition and sunlight, try putting a tray of water under the pot but don't let the pot get submerged in the water and put it out to the sun. Cold climate discourages banyan trees.

@BonsaiIligan
@BonsaiIligan 8 жыл бұрын
Plant first in appropriate size of pot, not too big to prevent root rot and so you can manage. Put in shade till new shoots are growing then ease to sun. let established (roots coming at bottom of pot). Shape the trunk by wiring and transfer to larger pot. Once you are satisfied with trunk form and major branches plant in ground for fastest growth. I use the colander method to facilitate root management. Do not prune to maximize growth. Protect from animals with fence if necessary, water and fertilize as standard procedure. Harvest only when you're design trunk dimension is attained.

dear sir, i was surprised about ur activities of tamarind tree. in bangladesh i tried a lot about these trees . but i observe that if the roots get in touch with air than the tree die. i dont know is my observation is true or false. in this video i am in doubt about the future of this tree.
@BonsaiIligan
@BonsaiIligan 8 жыл бұрын
Tamarinds are root sensitive and can easily die off when their roots are disturb. I am very careful when handling them. If you notice I just cut some roots around the root ball and try to maintain the root ball, in this way I have a 100 % recovery. But if I incidentally disturb the main root ball then I am careful to put the tree in full shade and keep the soil moist until new shoots will have grown and that is the time I ease them out to the sun (gradually). I will make a video once I will re-pot this in a bonsai pot say in a year from now. For now the tree is thriving. In your case base on your observation that when the roots are exposed the tree dies. I suggest that you plant your tree low that means you would need a deeper pot to cover all the roots but when you will eventually have to transfer into a bonsai pot which is a lot shallower you need to plant high meaning you will need to expose root surface and this will look a lot better. This is the technique I do: put an extension wall in your bonsai pot (made of steel sheet plastic or wood to hold more soil) to cover all of the roots initially. Then as the tree becomes established remove some soil gradually (take months or a year) until you will be able to remove the extension wall and your tamarind will have established in your shallow pot with surface roots adapted to exposure.

The most forgiving is a ficus. But you have to see around which is most available. Visit bonsai shows and ask questions. Also visit nurseries because they might have old landscape plants which have grown too large and they are disposing it at cheaper price. Bougainvillas, Fukien teas, Water Jasmines are some nursery materials which is good for bonsai.

I do have some videos where we sieved pure river sand using a screen to 2 sizes 1/4 inch for the drainage layer and1/8 inch as the top and middle layer. It's all over the channel. You can even use your Net you use to shade your plants. The coarser ones you need as you bottom layer (drainage layer). and the middle and top the finer sands. This is to facilitate aeration which is best for root growth. I will make a video still solely for this when I will have the opportunity.

sir,i have a tamarind tree from seed almost 1 year old,and planted in a small pot,its height is 1 feet tall and the thickness of the trunk is maybe 2cm,its possible to start bonsai this one or i need to transfer in a soil and wire the trunk for movement before transfer to soil,thanks again sir
@BonsaiIligan
@BonsaiIligan 8 жыл бұрын
claudio teodocio jr. Wire first before planting in ground for fastest growth. But my practice is I plant it in a larger container so I can manipulate the tree when needed rather than bending down low to work on the tree planted in the ground.

I started with river sand I seive to two sizes 1/4 and /18 inch. but in the long run somehow ordinary soil goes into it and it looks like ordinary soil, that is how it happens to most of my bonsai soil in the pots.
