So glad I came across you David. I am a beginner and have watched many many videos and you are the best at explaining details without being boring and playing annoying music. Maybe it's because I'm 69 yo that the music annoys me but it just doesn't seem to add anything in my opinion. Plus you speak clearly into the mic and not away from it mumbling. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us,

Thanks for your informative video. I have only seen a few of your shorts & tours of other bonsai collections & after this “how to” video I just subscribed. I really love your groves & hope to have one someday. I need a few more soils before I buy a juniper so thx for the info.

Yes it's good Junipers can be repoted late almost as last in Spring I didn't even start with "early desiduous" spieces yet, but will start soon. Afraid of sudden drop of temperatur and endanger roots. Well thanks for another educative video David. Appreciated

Hey David, kudos to the quality of your videos and trees, it's a pleasure to watch your videos. You've posted several videos of tours of other peoples nurseries, but i'd love to see you take us through a walkthrough of your own personal collection in detail. Thanks again for the great content?

Great video. I have a juniper in a nursery pot that has lots of fine circling roots out the bottom of the pot. It’s winter here in Texas and we have freezes now and then. Is it safe to repot or wait until spring? I have to leave it like this but don’t want to try to slip pot it damaging the bottom roots. There is no trouble protecting it from what freezes are left. Thanks !

David I was just given a bonsai Junpire. It was as hard as concrete on the top. Roots are showing through the wholes in the bottom. Have a bunch of brown and yellow. Very think foliage it is very young. Trimming season is offer and it is summer. I live in AZ. Do you have any advice for me the pot is taller than the tree and way larger than the width of the truck. Also should I bring it in on 125 temperature days.

very good information!! Thank you! About the wiring of the tree in pot - if you tie the roots too much, doesn't that affect them during the year? Making scars like you do in the trunk or even cut the water flow ?

David, I have a Shimpaku do the same rules apply including the soil mix. I use biochar for my garden amendments which is the same granular make up as yours, can I used that too? Thanks

Nice content as usual! When you say you can stretch repotting of Junipers up till June, are we talking of trees that spent winter outside underneath the bench or in a greenhouse? Do they have the same time frame (repotting window) Thanks

Thank you David! How could you explained the practice of Dan Robinson about not to repot his trees? I’m not understand completely how a tree can survive without repotting but his explanations are good in some cases.

Brilliant video, thank you for sharing David. At 23:10 in the video, you talk about immersing the pot in a shallow pan of water, can I ask how important this step is please? Something I've never done but feel I should be doing.

I’m in Flin flon , -45 in winter . I pick local trees to make bonsai out of. Can I winter them outside in a pot?
@brucejeffcott1104

Yes but they need protection. Either bury the pots in the ground and use snow to insulate. Or make sure they are in a snow bank. Shovel snow to make sure they have a snowbank. Good to use a structure of some sort to hold the snow. Like beside a shed.. in between a 2 buildings. Things like that.

So, to own a Juniper, I need nearly seven different types of soil, including charcoal and dolomitic lime??
@iTeachMyToast
@iTeachMyToast Жыл бұрын
If you have an old, refined one, I’m sure all the different soil types are more important, but nurseries grow them in potting soil and pine bark just fine (to a point). I’d take the middle ground and get some conifer bonsai soil

I am a hobbyist Bonsai owner of two Juniper Procumbens. I have just enough ADHD, to not want to get into this much detail with the soil / soil chemistry. Can anyone point me to a premix soil that I can buy that is suitable for Junipers???
