Here’s a snippet of what I found on the internet about toxicity of acrylic paints…”The acrylic colors that contain toxic chemicals will have it marked on the label-these include cadmium, cobalt, manganese, chromium, and lead. “. The clue is in the name…. So check your paint tube labels…….mostly, it seems they are just fine. I hate painting in gloves…..!!!

Hello Dulcie, I have read so much stuff !!!! I think you are right, read up on what you are using XX

My view on the gloves issue is that artists safety is about much more than wearing gloves. Solvents, powders, moulds and mediums have their distinct problems. Paints made in Europe and the US have to abide by safety legislation but it isn’t comprehensive and they don’t draw the same conclusions. Gradually paints containing dangerous elements like cadmium, cobalt, lead and others are being withdrawn or alternatives are available. Check labels. Finger tip gloves are available if regular gloves are not suitable. Here are my practises and why. My hands get sore easily so I protect them. I once had a bad reaction to old fibre tip pens I was using with pearlescent acrylic ink, acetone, turps and typists correction fluid. I developed a short term chest problem after using textile dyes in a confined space. So I usually wear gloves if I am going to get covered or especially when using dyes. I wear a suitable mask when using powdered items. Powder is lung damaging. I wear a mask if using solvents used with oil paint. Solvents damage lungs when inhaled and skin when touched. The right mask is needed whether for powder or solvent. I never use turps Rightly or wrongly I have always considered uk water based paint without a warning label to be pretty safe. I read labels and don’t buy budget paint unless from a known range. A friend had lead poisoning from eyeshadow she bought at a street market. Buyer beware. Hope this helps

Gaynor, sending you a big sigh (if you know what I mean) I appreciate that having paint on your hands could be a hazard but I’ve tried working with gloves on and don’t find it at all feasible, you lose your sense of feel and as art is a sensory process that must limit ability and my hands sweat terribly, especially on warmer days and impossibly on hot days, they actually prevent me be creative, how limiting to the art process is that! Could you not continue as you are but put a small disclaimer on the screen for those who are concerned, perhaps recommend people to refer to the details on the paints they use. The appeal of your channel is your spontaneity, if you change that because of a minority of comments it will change the feel of your videos. Hope this is helpful, it’s intended to be 😊
