Yes, they revved to 9100 rpm in the early stages of the 91 season, later reduced to 8500 rpm for reliability reasons. In 1992 the V8s were limited to 7500 rpm, and by 1993, most teams switched to the new Chevy based v8 instead.

Absolutely extraordinary footage. A 46 year old Peter in candid conversation with LP. Wow. Thanks so much for publishing this Jack. Peter and my dad were my heroes growing up and this is just superb. Dad worked for GMH for 40 years and met PB and your dad. The thing that grabs me here is the raw sound of the Holden V8 so early in the year. I always thought that LP lifted the revs as the year went on but that just sounds absolutely magnificent.

I utterly loved this era and this was one of my favourite GMH products of all time. I actually lived near one of Brocks engine builders in the days before your dad took over and he had nothing but kind words for Larry. I learnt about carburettor tuning, basic engine building and all sorts of little tricks. He and my dad constantly argued due to his LJ 4 door being painted to look like the Holden dealer team . . . and my dad being a Ford fan. My pop raced for Leyland (P76) so I was certainly the odd one out for a while.

Best sounding V8 this country ever produced and by FAR the most successful. And to add cream to the cake success it was AUSTRALIAN. Met Pete at a mobil service station in Frankston vic in 2003. He arrived in his VU Monaro that he shared with his son in the targa Tasmania race. A 1 hour appearance turned into over 2 hours as he signed EVERYTHING for EVERYONE including my brother in laws A9X and my VK 308 Calais still in the family. He was a pure gentleman to the kids especially. I told him I grew up watching him in the A9X and my first car purchase was because of him, an SS hatch V8. Peter and Larry what an incredible force they were absolute superstars. These days I don’t even bother getting up early for Bathurst like I did when these legends lined up with dick Moffat captain peter janson Bobby Morris ect. @@perkinsengineering oh absolutely! The poor old n/a VN didn't stand a chance against things like a Sierra that can pick up 200hp when you slide the heater controls or pull out the ashtray :) Other than going back to racing homologated production cars and multiple classes, I don't know what the answer is to keep it interesting. Today's race cars are amazing but us older guys just can't let go of the past :)

A lot of things changed from 86, Mike, DR30s.

Awesome. This is when a Supercar actually sounded like a Supercar. Todays racing cars and the racing itself has gone down the gurgler. What will they do when the Camaro retires ?? It's no longer a home grown race with Mustang and Camaros running around. It smacks of desperation really after the end of Falcon and Commodore. RIP V8 Supercars.

Let's enjoy the video for what it is - great memories and history of our sport. Holden is no more unfortunately so let's celebrate what we had! Cheers!
