You saying about the dogfish skin reminded me of an incident in my childhood (eons ago - I am ancient!) We had been given a couple large dogfish to help feed our family. Dad knew the skin was like sandpaper, so tried to remove it. Not having a clue how to do it, he ended up resorting to a pair of pliers. Even that proved difficult, so he took a large nail and, to prevent the slippery critter moving, nailed it to the door post of a cellar-type shed. He struggled, so asked for help. My elder brother had been reading my youngest brother the story of the Great big giant turnip, where the farmer and his whole family were failing to budge it, hanging onto each others shirt tails. Being a talented artist, he drew a cartoon of Dad, Mum, then 5 kids of varying sizes (and a labrador) all pulling together, to get the skin off a monster fish, nailed to a doorpost! It featured some months later, in the Farmers Weekly, along with Mum's hilarious account of the situation. We DID get the skin off and all really enjoyed the fish! I wish I had asked Mum whether she kept that cartoon, but she passed away last year and her house has been cleared. Happy memories, though xx

Haha. They are tough to skin arent they.

What an interesting story. I found myself reading it very intensely. Very amusing. I, too, would love to see a copy of the cartoon.
@lizg55742 ай бұрын
@@jeanetteburton9873 Since Mum died, my brother who had a lot of her artifacts to sort, suffered a house fire and lost everything (except his wife and their dogs). So Mum's copy is gone. However, I do have a 90+ yr old Aunt who kept clippings, so will ask my cousin to see if she can locate the cartoon and photocopy it for me. No promises! I'd then have to find a way to upload to show you, but if it can be done, I'll do it! x
@jeanetteburton98732 ай бұрын
@ Thank you so much. That’s awesome. I would truly love to see it. Once you find a copy, please get it photocopied as much as you want. That way, it will always be with you. The story so touched my heart. I grew up on a small family farm and we had to do everything ourselves. As I am 1 of 5 girls, ( no boys) we still shared the responsibility of taking care of things.

I wish there was a program where all the fish scraps from fishermen back in the harbor or marina were all collected and dropped back out in the ocean somewhere on reefs so that populations could flourish and get bigger sizes of things. Its such a good idea that would produce so much benefit.
@TheFishLocker2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that type of thing only increases the scavenger species and the abundant food without balance would upset the ecosystem eventually.
@steveklick2 жыл бұрын
@@TheFishLocker No, fisher men would keep harvesting that area with better turn out and bigger fish or crabs or whatever. It would actually create its own system that would sustain itself. It may eventually get out of control way down the line but it could be maintained. I went to florida once and visited a bunch of marinas and the marinas would have the biggest fish anywhere swimming all over the place with massive shoals of baitfish swimming around and such. The reason why this happens is because whenever fishermen come back the marina has fillet tables everywhere so everyone fillets up their meat right there on the spot and they toss all their scraps into the water all around the entire marina for all the fish to eat. Everything eats it because its in scraps everywhere and even puts nutrients in the water for plants and other bacteria and such. The marinas would actually be the best places to fish but its illegal to fish in them because if you actually catch a fish it will run around and under all the boats and such and will actually create a lot of damage. They are the best spots ever by far!!

But it occurs to me that your channel is serving a wonderful bonus purpose besides the usual high-quality edutainment: your local sharks are generally too small to be scary~🤣🤣🤣 P.S.: Got a good long giggle at the accidental kelp; until you showed the root base, I thought you'd got a random razor clam stuck in your pot! 😅😆
