In this bonus mailbag episode, Fox Sports’ lead college football analyst Joel Klatt makes his picks for 5 teams that underwhelmed in 2023 but will bounce back in a big way this upcoming season. He explains why he sees rivals, Colorado and Nebraska, taking a step forward along with a Big 12 team that he feels will grab one of the byes in the new 12-team Playoff format. Klatt wraps up by answering a request for some advice for a new father.

Joel, appreciate and agree with most of your list.Almost prefer you didn't call out SC because they are flying under the radar and most national pundits/fans are not aware of all the off-season moves (the D staff is amazing) as is a lot of the roster (back 7 will be significantly improved) but still thin on both lines (injury could be a major factor). Brutal schedule will likely under play the amount of improvement.

Bounce back from where? When? Bounce back usually means they were good, had a bad year and are bouncing back to good again. Besides Utah and Clemson, have any of the teams been relevant in a decade? At least bowling? Colorado is an example. Deion and the buffs might not have lived up to their own expectations, or the modified expectations of cfb, but they had out performing / hit the over by week 3. They’re just ascending. Nebraska is hoping they’re ascending vs the decade of stuck in the mud of seeing how many close games they can lose. There’s an entire generation that doesn’t remember Miami being good. Most of their fans would settle for learning to take a knee.

A&M has to be in the conversation. They’ve got 3 experienced QBs. The problem with A&M is that they haven’t had consistency at QB since 2020 with Kellen Mond and they went 9-1. If Weigman stays healthy and they can protect him, they have enough weapons everywhere to be really good. I love Klatt but Colorado being good has skewed his perception on things. I fully understand being bias, trust me, but he has some true blind faith in his school. Love ya Joel but come back to us in the real world. CO is going maybe 6-6 this year. I know we didn’t set the parameters for what would be considered a “bounce back” but I don’t think 6-6 or 7-5 is what you have in mind. They should’ve definitely beaten stanford but they could’ve easily lost to TCU and Colorado state.
@alexkain8564

@@Lram2525Colorado handled TCU in the first game. The Buffs offense was absolutely shredding TCU’s defense. To say that they could have “easily lost” to the Horned Frogs is just not true. Plus Colorado gets good players compared to most schools. 7-5 or 8-4 is a very achievable goal for Colorado
@Lram2525

@@alexkain8564 TCU turned the ball over on downs at the Colorado 40 with over a min left to play. I would say that yes, TCU could have definitely still won that game even though they ofcourse got shredded. My point was that they ended up not playing a lot of close games and if those go the other way, we are talking about a 2-10, 3-9 campaign. I could see that happening again this year. PAC-12 was definitely better last year than the big 12 will be this year but Colorado still doesn’t have the depth to truly compete for 8 or 9 wins. If going 7-5 is considered “bouncing back” then I will concede because that is the most likely outcome.

Re power5, not many, you can google, but for starters Elway was 20-23 at Stanford. Of course a winning record's important, but Joel and I think they'll be improved this year, thing is the defense also has to play well. Hey, even if the Buffs go 4-8 again (which I doubt), you said he'll go undrafted. I'm not usually a betting man but I'll wager you a Benamin re top 10 and if he's 12th I'll pay up. And I'll wager a grand he gets drafted, actually 10 grand if you're up for it, since both Manning bros as well as T Brady speak very highly of him. "I'm always here for him. I'm so proud of him, just watching him grow and mature,” Brady said on the show. “We all start at a certain place and he had a lot of high expectations and he's embraced it. I love him, and it just makes me proud to see what he's doing."

@@davidbp4 of the 287 quarterbacks who have started a game in the past 21 years, only 1.4% (4) have come from division II. Of division I quarterbacks having a losing record in college, only 2 were drafted NFL starters: Jay Cutler and Matt Cassel. Who ever is telling this athlete that he will be drafted number one quarterback or even drafted at all, simply isn’t being truthful. Analytics alone would tell you not to draft this athlete. He has a 1% chance of being a starter. He has a less than 1% chance of being successful. I love a good success story. But those numbers would not inspire me to spend millions of dollars on a 1% chance of return. If this young man wants to get drafted and play professional football, he has to improve his odds by having a winning season this year. Best of luck, young man.

@davidbp4 20 күн бұрын
@@rynebozzell On the positive side, I'm glad you wish him the best pf luck. With your analytics re a winning vs losing record, in high school his team went 13-1 and 14-0, two state championships. He was recruited by Bama, Georgia, Fla, Fla St, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Penn St and many others. At Jackson he went 11-2 and 12-1 so that shows a winning track-record. Again, last year, the most porous o-line in the nation, thus the most sacks at 52. As I also said, I don't say he's the #1 qb pick, despite the 247 link I posted saying so. I listed others who might go ahead of him, will add Jaxon Dart and Cam Ward to the mix. But for me the bottom line is you saying he won't be drafted at all. I think the Buffs will go at least 6-6 despite you saying 3 or 4 wins tops. Could it be you think his dad is over-hyping him and people are buying it?
