Love the stonework! I would have refined it for my taste with a hip roof and cupola. Possible arched carriage house doors as well. Perfecto! Circular house with two small windows as well with window flower boxes....but that's just me! Thanks!

Thank you...thank you...thank you! I was looking for a KZbin video that showed something exactly like this. I own a property in the country that is sandwiched between two old, historic, well-maintained buildings from the early 1800s. (My place is a garage/tractor business that was built in the 1920s.) I wanted to bring my place into closer alignment with the surrounding buildings. One challenge was the pump house. When I went on KZbin, I found nothing but little utilitarian shacks. Yours is more like what I want/need. I appreciate the detail you went into, as well. Thanks again!

Hi there! I love this build and all of the details that went into it. How is the stone holding up one year later? Would you use the Laticrete system again? The trim on the light looks awesome- what did y’all do there?
@BuildItLikeBeckhams
@BuildItLikeBeckhams 2 жыл бұрын
The stone's been doing great! It's holding up well and almost looks as new as the day we finished it. :) So yes we'd use the Laticrete system again. The light is actually just an outdoor sconce in that cute bell shape. It's part of the Liberty Collection from Troy Lighting.

Loved your building. I just put a mobile home in my property the well is dug but haven't installed water lines yet, I'm thinking about a set-up pretty similar as yours, Help me understand the layout of the pipes inside the shed: there's the water inlet pipe coming from the well connects to the water tank, then comes out the tank and distributed to 1 pipe for the house/rv? And other outlet pipe for the irrigation?, do you have like a distribution box outside for multiple water hydrants around your property? Id appreciate your response.
@BuildItLikeBeckhams
@BuildItLikeBeckhams Жыл бұрын
Yes, there are basically 2 types of water - the irrigation water that's received minimal filtration and then water thats gone through the multiple stage filter and softener, etc. Each type then tee's multiple times both within the pump house and underground at various points throughout the property. The shutoff valves in the pump house help isolate it when we need to add a tee or do some maintenance so that we don't have to turn off the water to everywhere. Hope that helps!

Hi there! Do you have an update on how the water filtration system is holding up? Any pros and cons with any of the brands/products? If you could change anything after having it in for a while, what would it be? About to mimic this setup for our well so just wanted to see!
@BuildItLikeBeckhams
@BuildItLikeBeckhams 9 ай бұрын
Hello! The filter systems have been working really well. We've had it for about 5 years already and haven't had the need to change the media in the softener or iron/sulfur remover. Earlier this year we started to notice the smell coming back but it went away by increasing the H2O2 injection rate, so it was likely a result of the natural breakdown of the H2O2, but 5 years is a pretty good run for shelf life. So the only advice I'd say is don't order too much at the beginning, see fast how your injection rate consumes it (it depends on your water) and then order the right amount on an ongoing basis.

Thanks Eric! This is the link to the part we bought - www.supplyhouse.com/sh/control/product/~product_id=0683041. However, I would note that one of the ball valves on the end had a defect and was cracked. Otherwise it's been working great.

What are the fittings the drain lines go through? I have a 2" drain pipe and will fabricate the pvc manifold like you have, but do not recognize the fitting for the hoses. Thanks
@BuildItLikeBeckhams
@BuildItLikeBeckhams 2 жыл бұрын
It's called a backwashing air gap and is meant to separate the water supply from any contaminants that can accumulate in the drain system. There is a full description from the same manufacturer as the water equipment where we bought them - www.uswatersystems.com/air-gap-for-water-softener-1-1-2.html. Also, make sure you leave at least 12" (but 24" is better if you have room) of vertical pipe between before any 90s or T's in your manifold. The water tends to back up going around a turn and will overflow out of the drain pipe if you don't have enough vertical height. We made that mistake initially and had to rebuild the manifold. Hope that helps!

I have a question about your well head. How did you freeze proof that. I didn’t see that mentioned. I gather it is still outside the shed. Best Plan. Ran it underground into the shed. But what did you do to it. Besides the typical fake rock. Or did you just fake rock it.
@BuildItLikeBeckhams
@BuildItLikeBeckhams 2 жыл бұрын
I guess we never filmed that part but we used what's called a Pitless adapter so that the water can exit the well below the ground and make it's lateral run to the pump house. The depth that one should install it depends on the frost depth in your region. In our CO house it was down almost 5' but here we just did it about 18" since it rarely freezes.

I notice you talking about the line coming in from the well so I’m curious about the distance between your well and the pump house. We just had our well dug and upgraded to a 120 gallon tank and 2hp pump since the well will be supplying the main house and guest house. The distance between the well and main house is about 100 ft then another 100+ ft to the guest house. Currently everything is together and exposed to the elements. About to apply for permit to construct the pump house and assumed everything should stay together but I like the idea of the well it’s self not being inside the pump house. I think this would give us the flexibility of building the pump house closer to the guest house. Didn’t realize that was an option.
@BuildItLikeBeckhams
@BuildItLikeBeckhams 3 жыл бұрын
In our case the well head is about 50 ft from the pump house. We used the same size - 1-1/4" - pipe for the lateral run as the drop pipe to minimize any friction loss. As long as it's flat or not a steep climb from the well head to the pressure tank then the submersible doesn't really know the difference. Good luck!

@@kellyojeda9634 It depends on the city code of course, but where we live you don't need permits for sheds under a certain size (I think it's 200 sqft, but I could be wrong). You don't need the well head inside the pump house, in fact with a large pump that might be a bad idea, because if you ever need to service it, you need a crane to pull it out and then you need to destroy your pump house every time. Our pump is only 1/2 hp, it is easy to pull out without equipment and we have the well head inside the well house. Makes it easier to keep it all above freezing. Good luck with your set up!

Truly amazing that you guys are doing all this together, and mostly by yourselves from what I could see. Unbelievable! And LOVE the filtration system. Have a question... I'm building a similar filtration set-up, but my pump and pressure tank will be located about 120 ft from the farthest bathroom. Not sure if the pressure tank can provide pressure that far? How far (approximately) is your pressure tank from your farthest faucet? Thanks!
@BuildItLikeBeckhams
@BuildItLikeBeckhams Жыл бұрын
Pressure loss is a function of distance and pipe size. If you use a big enough pipe you won't notice the pressure drop. The distance from our pump to farthest faucet is over 200' so for the long distance run we use a 2" pipe, but smaller may work depending on the flow required. Check out this online calculator: www.tlv.com/global/US/calculator/water-pressure-loss-through-piping.html Thanks for watching!

amazing build .. how far from RV & house is it located ? Would tying a rain catchment cistern system for irrigation be difficult in your opinion?
@BuildItLikeBeckhams
@BuildItLikeBeckhams 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The pump house is about 50' from the RV and 100' from the future house. We thought about rain catchment systems, but given that we don't really get very much rain it probably wouldn't be worth the effort since we'd still need to use the well for irrigation in the summer anyway.

What is the adapter you used to transition from 1" pex to the 1/2" (assumed) flush valve right after the 3 pre-filters?
@BuildItLikeBeckhams
@BuildItLikeBeckhams 2 жыл бұрын
It looks like we used a 1" PEX to NPT adapter that threaded into the flush valve and then a 1" to 1/2" bushing on the other side of the valve to convert it to 1/2" hose barb. Hope that helps!

It's been a while, but for the building itself I seem to remember that the concrete, framing, roofing and insulation were all about $1000 each, so $4000 for all that. The stone siding material was $13/sf so that was another $4000 (obviously there are cheaper siding materials one could choose). Plus the door and other misc costs put it at around $10,000 for the building without the plumbing equipment. We're doing a better job of tracking the costs on our house project so stay tuned!

Our biggest problem was the hydrogen sulfide which is a fairly common problem in well water. It dissipates as a gas once the water isn't under pressure. You can smell it even at very low concentrations so the hydrogen peroxide system is nice since it removes it. After installing that system we haven't noticed it at all and have great water quality now.

Yes it's a lovely shed but as for the "worlds nicest" I have to disagree. The garden shed originated in the UK during prehistoric times for the ancient Britons to hide away from their Cave-Woman wives and ferocious dinosaurs, it was invented 6 months after the ancient British cavemen came up with the idea of the garden, where they grew cucumbers and roses. So even though yours is fantastic the worlds nicest can only be found in the ancient woodlands of Great Britain.. like Swansea. 👍😁
