Hi. An excelent idea and a video that should be shown to as many people as possible. Most people i know carry nothing, unless they have kids and then it is a backpack of gear they will hopefully never need. Every one should carry at least one of these small kits at all times. If you have a knife, sooner or later you will need a band aid. This is often neglected in edc vids. Good health and stay safe my friend.

Thanks so much, Rhino! Very kind words. I love my fancy trauma kits and the “exciting” medical gear, which I think one should have handy, but reality is I’ll likely never use thay stuff (hopefully). Your little first aid kits are similar to my pocket EDC first aid kits. Personally I have less medication based on my encounters and need for them. I also carry a 2x2 gauze swab because I'm sick scouts a lot. A lot of the kids will be bleeding and not notice for a bit (small cuts) or walk over to me without thinking to use pressure. So a lot of the time i don't even need a bandaid I just need to wipe off blood for hygiene sake/ seeing the actual wound. Also some younger kids really object to alcohol wipes so I'll use Benzalkonium chloride instead of alcohol or just for cleanup. I don't really keep sting relief but I do keep Benadryl and ibuprofen with loratadine making occasional guest appearances. I tend to lean towards ibuprofen over acetaminophen because of the ability to reduce a fever but in a boo boo kit they're pretty interchangeable (spare people with allergies.) I also like to carry gloves on me a lot but with boo boos often the person is conscious and i hardly need to touch them. Again my proximity to small kids at scouts means I may need to do things like wipe up a little blood because a kid is in hysterics. I try to carry a little CPR face shield too but obviously that's a step up from boo boos.
@GearedTowardGear15 жыл бұрын
Yeah there’s a million ways you can go with a boo boo kit. I keep gauze pads and all sorts of other stuff in other kits, for me this is just to add to a trauma kit. I think Acetaminophen is a better fever reducer, and Ibuprofen is of course better for muskoskeletal pain as it is also an anti inflammatory which Tylenol is not. But as you said they both work for basic aches and pains in the short term. That’s the great thing about medical “kits” is that they come in literally every shape and size and can be customized which is the fun part! If I was going to carry a boo boo/first aid kit for outings with scouts it would look very different than this.

Nice kit. I put a similar one togehter last week with a smaller loksak bag from the edc truama kit. Cool idea to use the pill bags for the topical and pills, I'll be getting some of those for sure. I like the idea of using jewlery ziplock bags though, much cheaper and these don't really need the extra thickness for a glovebox kit.
@GearedTowardGear15 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome Dave! The small LokSak would be great for a bit larger version of this. Great idea. You’re right, the cheaper bags would definitely be more economical. If I didn’t already have a 100 pack of the pill pouches lying around I probably would have bought the cheaper bags as well. Thanks for watching my friend!

Since I have a problem with my skin tearing, I carry a waterproof hard plastic cellphone case with several LAAARGE Bandaids and a few smaller sized bandaids. I carry so many because sometimes I have to modify the bandages to cover areas larger than one will cover. This condition was caused by some medication I used to take that weekened the skin (one tear took 40 staples to close and 6 weeks to heal). I go nowhere without this case. funny thing is I rarely get cuts from knives and The Dr. prescribed blood thinners to a knife collecter. lol
@GearedTowardGear15 жыл бұрын
Wow, Bruce!! I have a family member with a very similar condition and she is often covered in bandaids unfortunately. That’s good though that you’re prepared with a kit that suits your specific needs. Very smart. Maybe that should be a question in the doctors forms before they prescribe blood thinners: “do you collect and often play with knives?” Lol. I’m the same way though, I rarely cut myself with knives.
@rickkerans84855 жыл бұрын
That is very well thought out and very comprehensive for a boo boo kit. I would change out more Tylenol or Acetaminophen and have fewer Ibuprofen because I can't take Ibuprofen. Other than that I would probably go with that as is. Is there a substitute for the nausea medication that is not prescription medication? The red one is perfect for med kit. Is there any velcro on the containers that you could put a patch for what it is because red would be good for fire also. Great video.
@GearedTowardGear15 жыл бұрын
Hey Rick! Thanks so much for watching. Unfortunately there isn’t a non prescription medication that I have found is GREAT for nausea. There is a medication called Dramamine-N that isn’t bad. It works ok for Nausea. It’s an updated version of the traditional Dramamine that has long been used for motion sickness. That’s probably the best over the counter option. The Bismuth tablets (aka Pepto Bismol) which are included in my kit do treat nausea, but it’s more of a broad spectrum medication that treats stomach ache, diarrhea, indigestion, heartburn, and nausea. It’s treats all of them ok, but none of them amazingly well. As for the pouch there is no Velcro option unfortunately. I guess you could sew on a patch or write on it with a sharpie. It is nice that they come in every color under the sun

Great kit and a fun project to build up a set of these! I am doing ten and figure at that scale if you need to buy pretty much everything it's about $50, or $5/kit (smaller quantities of the single-dose ointments contribute the most). Doing more than 20+ can significantly reduce the unit cost, maybe to $2.50 or so. That sound about right?

@GearedTowardGear15 жыл бұрын
Hey Cameron! If I had an extra one that wasn’t spoken for I’d totally give you one, but they’re all either in kits or given to family. I do have one that I added to the upcoming GAW though. It wouldn’t cost much at all to build one. All of the components are quite inexpensive. Some of it you may have lying around the house, the rest is easily purchased at any drug store or pharmacy, or online, even the little plastic baggies. The individually packaged ointments and medications will likely have to be purchased online through Amazon for example in bulk which does add to the cost. I may go ahead and buy some more bulk products and make like 50 or 100 of these things, might be a fun project. Here is the list of contents that I put in mine. You could of course adapt this to fit your needs: 1x Large bandaid 5x regular bandaid 1x steri strips 1x Splinter Out 1x Burn Gel 1x oral pain relief gel 1x anti-itch cream 2x antibiotic ointment 1x sting relief pad 2x alcohol wipes 1x bismuth tabs (stomach relief) 1x antacid tabs 2x anti-diarrheal tabs 8x ibuprofen tabs (200mg) 6x acetaminophen tabs (500mg) 4x Benadryl tabs (25mg)
