It is interesting what you say about the racoons and the water-bowls. Because the Norwegian word for racoon is "vaskebjoern". And it means cleaning-.bear. Or washing-bear. Vaske=to clean/to wash and bjoern=bear.

I'm having a hard time getting them to let me near them. One beautiful senior female lets me pet her. My husband thinks I'm crazy feeding and caring for all these cats. I treat them for worms too.

For the record, I (for one) really do get a vast amount of enjoyment out of watching these videos. I honestly don't know or understand why certain smatterings of people might like to indulge in rudeness or whatever else. However, it's pretty clear that their numbers are greatly outweighed by those who possess a genuine affection and interest in viewing the on-going progress of your wonderful kitties. All of them are so beautiful, so highly individual, with their respective quirks and rituals, and you clearly put a lot of energy, effort, and love into chronicling and presenting their daily lives. (...Cats really do adore their routines, don't they? Mine certainly does! Connie was a shelter cat, sort of a loner by nature, partially wild from years spent all on her own, but in ownership of a big heart and desires for someone who would care about her...) So, please know that your efforts are very much appreciated, without question, and try not to think about any stray muckrakers or trolls out there. Best wishes!

Can't wait to see some Boo chair-cam footage! It was really nice to see the whole family at the back door. One wonders, are the feather toy or Boo or both the key to reducing some of Splash's fear? Also, in the same way that fear and negativity can rub off on cats and people, do suppose Simba's playful interaction with Boo will serve as an example to Splash that not everyone and everything is to be feared? One last thing, do you think it would be a good idea to put the expandable shelter (or for that matter the plastic carrier) on the chair and set the towel inside? Not entirely sure what that would accomplish - just a thought. :-)

Yes thank your for the effort you put in to do these videos. Having done video editing projects for clients I know how much work it is. On another topic, I think Stella likes your smell after the shower the same way that cats like catnip. Catnip is in the "mint" family of plants. It has an intense smell that cats go wild over. Cats are so much about "smell" that the intense smell of the catnip makes them act crazy. What happens is that eventually it overwhelms them and the effect wears off. Like 10 minutes or so. I think too that catnip only effects a relatively small percentage of cats. not all cats react to it. I wouldn't be surprised if your "fresh soap smell" had a similar effect. When I was younger we always had cats usually just one sometimes two at most. They were "inside out" cats. They lived both inside and out. We actually had a cat that didn't use a litter box. She was like a dog and would scratch at the door to go outside then scratch to get back in. I remember being really disappointed with one of our cats not having any reaction at all to catnip. Then another cat we had I remember it spending a long time head first inside a large paper bag with chopped up FRESH PICKED CATNIP we found in someones yard. Talk about a strong reaction. P.S. Another bit of info about kittens. A litter of kittens can have multiple fathers. I know it sounds freaky but it's true. So in theory Splash and Simba could have different fathers which might account both for their appearance and personality. (believe it or not this can happen to humans as well but it's rare).

Yes I see it. That little patch of white on Boos belly! When I was young we had a litter of kittens in the house that was clearly from two tom cats in there and maybe three. The mother cat was a sort of calico tabby mixture but the kittens didn't look like her at all. The litter had one cliched orange tabby one gray tabby and one absolutely pure white angora. There was a tom of each of those in the neighborhood. We kept the white angora kitten for ascetic reasons but didn't consider that being an outdoor cat like her mother, that long white fur was a NIGHTMARE to keep brushed out. Seriously thick angora you barely noticed if she had an angry puffy tail or not. Sometimes after a long adventure in the wild, it required a few snips of scissors to get burs and branches loose from that white soft fur. We had a huge forrest and stream behind the house. Couldn't keep kids like me and my friends or cats away from it.

Vernon Zehr It is in their genetic make up whether they react to catnip or not. I used to think it was mainly boy cats that liked it as none of the females I had liked it. I've since read several articles about it. I now have 3 cats, all of which love it. Two of them are females.

I'm always amazed that you are holding the camera while brushing and petting. It's easy to forget. You do a great job of getting amazing footage . Since you are getting so many views and your focus is feral cats, it would be great if you could urge people to catch neighborhood ferals and get them neutered. Each one feral cat can lead to hundreds of offspring. For me the most important thing is to get them neutered before more and more little kittens are born. Thank you for the wonderful videos! Looks like Boo is comfortable with Simba and Splash but not with Stella.... interesting. Wonder why that is. Maybe because Stella is bigger? Or maybe Stella is used to being #1 cat indoors, and Boo is a threat to that since he would want to be #1 also?

BTW, it's possible that both Splash and Simba have different fathers. Female cats can become pregnant by different dads during the same pregnancy. Thank goodness you can't say the same about humans...can you imagine what Thanksgiving would be like?

I'm guessing it's not a good idea to quick defrost the raw food in the microwave? Will it make the microwave smell super bad or spoil the food somehow? Oh wait....microwave = cooking.
