Boogie Van Accessories! Mounting a Spare Tire Mount Ford Econoline E150 Van

This time at the Quick Speed Shop its boogie van action again! I'm accessorizing the rear of my 1988 Ford Econoline E150 with a Surco Inc. rear tire mount. This made in USA part is a nice piece. Watch as I perform a few tweaks to make it better and get it mounted up.

How has it held up? I am looking at doing the same thing to my van. Did you accidentally back into anything? That was a concern I had, forgetting the extra bit of length

It's worked great for 10,000 miles. Having an aluminum wheels helps with door weight.

Curious if there’s an issue blocking the license plate at all. Thinking specifically of Pa and the toll roads cameras that charge by plate. I like the look.

It doesn't block the plate at road height. I could care less if the toll cameras can see it. That's the state's problem, not mine. All I care is if it's visible from behind at vehicle height, and it is.

I never was a fan of the louvers, instead I'd use some Lumar dark tint on those windows. Your van though, Just a thought. Great job installing the tire mount.

I love the louvers. Had limo tint in the back of both of my old '98 vans.

I have an all original 87 E150 Club Wagon with the carbureted 351W H.O. with 53k on the ODO loaded with a bed in the back even. But the dealership or Ford put the spare tire on the door with the handle down low. Kinda weird that i have to reach around the tire to open the door. Drivers side makes way more sense but you know, you don't mess with OEM vintage.

Yeah, all the Fords had it on the passenger door down low, but I hated the look of that. That's why I put it on the driver's door.

I have an 88 econoline as well but my tire size is 235 85 16.. do you think I should provide more support since it’s a bigger tire ?

If you are running steel wheels I would not mount the tire on the door. The hinges and the mount won't handle it. They make offroad bumpers/mounts for 4x4 vans with large, heavy tires, but they are very expensive.
