I've shot Sony forever, and the one thing that I've always envied from Canon is the Rate button. I still don't understand why we don't have it, it's SO handy, and would be SO easy to implement!!

Sony have a rate function and you can assign it to which ever button you like or on older cameras use the protect button. Then use the transfer and tagging app to transfer to your phone and edit and share as Vanessa does here. I tend to what’s app a few key images to the bride and groom. Concerned that taking too much time out from shooting I’ll miss key guest moments so don’t spend too much time on this

I am totally blown away by what you presented in this video, Vanessa. It makes me feel incredibly inspired while also making me feel like a supreme underachiever! LOL! I don't know how many weddings you shoot each year, but doing all this for most of your shoots, taking the time to make these videos, interacting with people on social media, having kids, etc. You surely must have a mental health therapist to help you cope with the demand! In the Philippines, same day edit slideshows are pretty much standard. We edit in a laptop, build slideshows with music, and show it on a projector or the LED background screen at the venue. Then many of us get paid less than $1000 for all the trouble. 😂

Being an amateur photographer I was not too keen paying for a wedding photographer at my own wedding. The chap we had was not that great for a number of reasons, one being he turned up late because he was running late ! I would have paid to have Vanessa Joy as she delivers one of the most professional wedding services i have ever seen ! If I am ever asked to shot a wedding I would want to do it like VJ !

Only do this on one or two occasions. The most I sent on same time as the event was ongoing was a couple of weeks ago. The client did not care about edit and luckily been doing Raw+jpg for a while now (surprisingly), so just started pushing the images to them from my phone. They were so happy. Within 24hrs I sent all the edited images when I got home. Might try doing it more, with exceptions to avoid any pressure as stated in the video.

Nice. I do the same thing to my family and friends. I only edit photos when they really like it. I print for elders and people from out of town, using the same printer. This is why I love canon. Even unedited jpeg colors are great. BTW. I only shoot raw to both cards. When you transfer raw to a phone it becomes a JPEG. I also hold on to these jpeg as another backup to the raw files. I then change my micro sd cards on my phone every year. Haha.

I take photos of my sons baseball games and love being able to use the canon connect app with my phone to send parents and players photos right away. Thanks for posting this- so helpful to see how you do it! For the images that you deliver same day edits, do you go back and re-edit those with the RAW file? Seems like you'd get a good edit on the wedding day but maybe not the perfect edit you'd want of the shot if you had more time.

Rating in camera really is the way to go bc then you don’t need to load the whole card, just the first that come up

Hey Vanessa. Awesome video and love your work. I wish it was that easy for my line of photography. I also shoot R3 and R6 but I do horses at shows and have sometimes up to 50 individual riders to get footage of in a day minimum . By the end of a 3 day show I've normally shot over 2TB of footage, from photos to HFR 120p 4k reels. There is little to no time during a class to flip through footage and rate them. There is often a 30 to 45 min turn around time between classes which leaves me just enough time to download from both cameras. Its then off to the next class. I have watched some other photographer shoot jpeg and link and edit on her phone, but then again she has no idea how to take a proper photo and the results are such shit. Problem is she sends out almost right away where I refuse to compromise my standard and clients may be lucky if I start sending out photos and reels out three day after the show. Its amazing how I will get messages at around midnight after the show has finished with people asking if their photos are ready.. I wish I had a solution to getting the footage out quicker but I just done see how. The reels are the " Real" Killer and take almost 4 times as long to edit, color grade, key frame if needed. and to top it off I never send out work unless payed for so I have to often create double the amount of files one High res and the second low res with a watermark. Lightroom is pretty efficient and I can bomb out and go through a file of 2000 images , select the best ones, edit with a sync and any additional fine tuning along with a mass export with signature and watermark in about 1 hr. but then to add the reels onto that is so time consuming and multiply that by 4 to 6 classes in a day with app 20 riders who want photos turns into a long long time to edit. Maybe you have a solution ;-P .

Well done Vanessa on raising the tide for ALL photographers in showcasing how to increase their value on the wedding day. I've being doing a similar workflow for a few years with same day slideshows / family frames and honestly, It has helped me book more weddings than any other form of marketing. However, I shoot with an R6 in RAW to both cards as the Canon App converts it to a JPEG when sending it to your phone. Just in case you were shooting jpeg to one card for this purpose only. The methods here where i am (Portugal) are very different from those in US. Here it is usual to the photographer to have printed photos, not for bride and groom, but mainly for thr guests, who like to keep a photo with bride and groom. So, we must carry some equipment... I use 2 6x8 printers and a laptop. I use jpeg files, and print the photos in 6x8 size. Of course i make some for the bride and groom. It is usual to print about 100 +photos in a wedding.

I do it throughout the entire wedding day also because I have a separate backup that I can use that except JPEG only so it’s a nice way to have a separate backup. In addition the other backing up that I do. And you can absolutely turn on airplane mode on your camera and that will save battery

Yes all of the sharing and model releases are in my contract, some higher end clients don’t want that so then I don’t do it. And I share with the vendors that were part of the wedding like the florist and the stationary designer and wedding dress shop and reception, etc

Adobe support has great instructions for this but the short explanation is just load them all onto lightroom CC, wait for them to upload to the cloud, and open lightroom mobile (make sure you're signed into your cc account) and they'll be there under user presets. :-)

I tried yo rate photos with the stars and export in Lightroom P.C. the rated photos. But i don’t get to find the rated photos directly in LR P.C. I don’t see the stars. You can see rated in the same LR, but not the camera rated photos. Hello from Spain!! 😘
