Frankenstein by candlelight makes you an AWESOME kid in my opinion 😅

I love your recommendations! I also love that you don’t intentionally spoil the plot. I’m very sensitive to that lol My recommendation is Something wicked this way comes. It’s so atmospheric and autumnal. It’s also one of those books like quickly turns into a film in your head instead of waiting a while to fall into it.

Ooh, yes! That’s a great recommendation. Such brilliant atmosphere. 😊

A good follow up for anyone who liked Something Wicked This Way Comes is The October Country, also by Ray Bradbury. It's a collection of creepy, uncomfortable short stories. I don't even usually like short stories, but this is one of my favorite books.

@@gillianwinzinger9558 thanks for the recommendation! Adding it to my list. 😊

I'm always so happy to see a new video from you. Shirley Jackson is one of my top five writers of all time. You have some great suggestions in here, so I spent the whole video pausing, adding to Goodreads, and seeing if my local bookstore can get a few of them for me. I also love seeing the editions that you have. The cover art on your copy of The Graveyard Book is gorgeous.

I hope you enjoy any you give a try! It is a lovely edition of The Graveyard Book, isn’t it? Would love if all of Gaiman’s books came in similar editions. 😊

Such a lovely chat to wake up to 🥰! Wonderful video 💝 Love hearing about your reading experiences and gateway books 😊 So many great recommendations. Ashamed to say that our boy Maugham’s ‘The Magician’ was the first of his I ever bought. Still unread. Glares down at me from the shelf, reminding me of this crime every day. So many others on this list that I would love to get to too. I think we need to speak to someone about stretching October by another 30 days or so ☺🖤🧡 Would love to hear your spooky TBR for the month ahead (would you be up for a buddy read of The Graveyard Book?) x

Will definitely make a Spooky TBR next week and YES PLEASE! I would love to do a Graveyard Book buddy read! Just let me know when and I’m in! Going away later in the month but it’s to Morgan’s parents place so I should still have time to read, no problem. 😊

@@WordsofaReader woo-hoo 🧡! I’m happy to kickstart the month with it. I’ll leave the pacing/ pages per day up to you, as you have a better idea about length/time, etc. 😊 Excited to read along with you 👻👻 x

I look forward to the TBR too! I haven’t read many classics so this is a helpful video on where to start. My rec might be overly mainstream, but it would a Michael McDowell book, probably The Elementals (I usually reread every summer here in the US, it’s one of my favorite settings of all time) or Cold Moon Over Babylon.

Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the recommendation! I’m not familiar with Michael McDowell. Just looked up The Elementals and it sounds great. 😊

Your video has persuaded me to finally pick up The Picture of Dorian Grey after having bought it nearly 8 years ago! Personally, I think The Secret History by Donna Tartt is a great automnal read, with just a bit of spookiness.

I hope you have fun with it! The Secret History is a great rec too! Another one I haven’t read in years. Definitely should pick it up again. 😊

Yes, that you would only read Frankenstein by candlelight during a storm makes you A-OK in my book! Edited to include that I really LOVE all of your book choices in this video.

Dear Lesley, I am beyond delighted that the good spirits of this season have reunited me with your channel which I discovered a couple years ago and was so greatly inspred by that my happy heart still breaks now to realize I lost track of it! (For that interruption I choose to blame the YT algo or perhaps Gewwwwgle officers generally (as I do for possibly too many things haha.)) If you have a wishlist anywhere (perhaps my beloved Book Depository) would you please share details so I may send you a copy of Chiltern Classics' gorgeous edition of Frankenstein. I love how you discovered that novel at such a young age and love and reread it still. In all events please accept my thanks for your outstanding content and my very best wishes as well! I look forward to catching up on your video library and watching your new videos so so much!

Thanks so much for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I’ve barely made any content over the last couple of years but am definitely looking to get back into the habit. 😊 I don’t have a Wishlist anywhere but you’re so kind to want to send me a book. I really appreciate the thought. 🥰
