I love both the book and the movie, but Richard Bach despises the movie. I've had a few discussions with Richard about it, and he told me that he doesn't like the movie because director Hall Bartlett added in some violent scenes which weren't in the book (like the scene where the hawk attacks Jonathan, or the scene where the seagulls are biting and bloodying each other). Richard wrote the screenplay, then had his name taken off it... but despite the behind-the-scenes drama, I believe that the movie is very faithful to the book. I'm happy to have both of them.

I'm not really familiar with the movie. I remember seeing part of it when I was a kid, but as I say in the review, it was a bit over my head. So, I don't even know if I saw the whole thing.

thank you for review! Is there any info on him commenting, why he left his family? Did he think that 6 kids are Illusion without any consequences? Wikipedia: Richard and Bette's son Jonathan, named after the titular character in Bach's bestseller, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, is a software engineer and journalist. He wrote the 1993 book Above the Clouds, about growing up without knowing his father and then later meeting him as a college student. Richard gave his approval, although he noted that it included some personal history he would "rather not see in print."

You've described my entire experience of this book. I travelled with it through some of the hardest parts of my life, I had a dream I had to leave my own country for and the qualification so rare that more people have climbed mount Everest. But I did it and I flew.

I have been searching for answers for the amazing spiritual journey I have been on... through many devastating life moments that have kept compounding with amplitude with each life experience it has been like with each great trial... I discover steps closer to where I am in my journey. Through each great pain, I have experienced amazing spiritual gifts. I have been trying to make since of it all, then a friend said you are sounding like Johnathon Livingston Seagull and suggested I read it... I did! Then I just ran across your review... I too have had to experience all on my own as I did not want others to "taint" my experience.

Beautiful review. An old friend of mine recommended this book to me and I can relate to your review and words entirely. I also read The Alchemist twice along with jls. My mom sent these two books to me while I was in jail upon my request. I read many books by many authors. Even the Bible a bit. My positive thoughts for your well being and happiness are being sent your way. the next time you see a violet, think of me! Blessings

You start out by insulting people with deeply held beliefs; it's hard to follow anything you say after that...

Understandable. I was in a bitter mindset when I wrote this 5 years ago. Don't really see things that way anymore.

The book will only take you 30 minutes. It's very short. After that, I would suggest _Illusions_ also by Richard Bach.
