One of my favorite writers. I would very much recommend The Easter Parade and his short stories as well. Just subscribed to your channel and look forward to listening to more of your reviews.

Wonderful review Amanda! I remember looking up Yates immediately after finishing the book and learning that this was his debut novel....flabbergasted.... I think I gave his Wikipedia page a standing ovation. Such wonderful writing and as you say, his characters. John and the clarity he shone on the others and their situations was just written and expressed so brilliantly. i'm going to have to queue this up for a re-read :) So glad you loved it x

It's amazing this was his debut, but that also became his curse. I've heard he never felt the rest of his writing career lived up to its start, which is a sad thought - like peaking as a human being in high school :/

I picked up East of Eden and few others that you've suggested and LOVED them. So I trust your opinions, and will be picking this one up this weekend. Thank you!! Great Review!

I watched the film version of this and really enjoyed it recently, and I've bought the book so hopefully I'll get round to reading it some time soon :)

Let me know what you think of the book compared to the movie! I saw the movie first but years ago and remember almost nothing about the adaptation :)

Okay, can I leave a random interesting fact? I just read Seinfeldia (about the show) and the real life inspiration for certain characters and Elaine is based off Larry David's ex, Monica Yates. In the early seasons they introduce Elaine's father as a renowned novelist. And it was based off Monica's father... Richard Yates! I've been meaning to read this since I found that out! Great review 👍🏼

You can share random interesting facts anytime :D That's quite a unique reason to pick up Revolutionary Road, but I hope you enjoy it when you do, all the same :)

This book has been eating dust on my bookshelves for more than a year, and now I can't wait to pick it up. God damn, you could probably convince me to pick up Fifty Shades. I love your reviews so much ;-;

Hahahahaha!!! I have no intention of reading Fifty Shades and promise not to do a glowing review if I do :D I'm so glad you enjoy my reviews! They are some of the videos I'm most proud of :) I hope you love Revolutionary Road as much as I do when you read it!!

I loved this book, too! I also liked the author's short stories and have more books by him on my wishlist :-) I haven't thought about my favourite books of the year yet, it's time I started...

I have my eye on Easter Parade - mementomori recommended it. Which short story collections have you read? And, yes, I think it might be time to think about your best books of the year :D

Yes, I'm thinking of Easter Parade as well. I read "Eleven Kinds of Loneliness" with a few goodreads friends, some of them didn't like it though. I thought the stories weren't as good as Revolutionary Road, but still pretty good. I liked the whole concept, especially.

That title is marvelous! We'll have to see what I think of the collection eventually :)
