"The point of books is to have conversations" ❤❤❤❤❤❤ I so agree. We need conversations more than ever these days too. I'll have to add this book to my list now.

I read The Ones Who Don’t Say They Love You Stories. By Maurice Carlos Ruffin. I enjoyed that one pretty good. Many of the stories took place in New Orleans. I read it during the pandemic.

I felt that way about Ruby by Cynthia Bond. It took me six tries and I took it with me to jury duty. And while I waited for six hours, I finally got through the book. It’s a triggering but once I got going I understood what I was reading and realized it was not a bad book at all. I do feel the author should put trigger warnings on Ruby.

I think giving authors grace is very important. Especially if you hadn’t read their entire catalog to understand writing style. BUT I also feel like we have the freedom to express how we feel about a story and /or the writing when it makes us feel a certain way. As black people, we don’t want anyone coming for us and forcing us to explain why we do the things we do Every single time. And I think that’s why I give grace to everyone else (winthin reason 😂) But, we really don’t know an authors writing style until we get through their entire catalog which sucks. So I think you did best reaching out to someone that was familiar. I also love that you stuck it through and end up liking the story/book! It’s you whispering “they gone think you need to see the lady” 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Before I started this book I read some reviews which, helped set my expectations. People said it was a coming of age story and that most of the action doesn’t take place until halfway through the book. Then I got to the epilogue and everything made sense. Even though it is mentioned in the beginning that there is a diary, I wish I had the information of the epilogue at the start. I did still enjoy this book. Thanks for sharing your review!

That's a great point about the diary! I wish we would’ve gotten the epilogue first too. Maybe written differently to not give as much information though. Still a good book.

We Cast A Shadow also by Maurice Carlos Ruffin is science fiction. I am curious about that one. I don’t know if I can do American Daughters. I love your reviews and videos.
