Book Sculpture Tutorial: The Yin Yang

I’ve received numerous inquiries about how to make this book sculpture, and I’m excited to finally offer this free video tutorial for it. The concept behind this design is to cut the pages incrementally by 1/8″ to create the gradated look. I call this design the Yin Yang because the two halves seem to complement yet tug at each other - much like the dynamic system of contrary forces found in nature, seemingly opposing yet interconnected and interdependent. thank you very much for sharing! I tried to fold this yin yang book sculpture for so many times. And I always failed. Now I got this helpful video, that's wonderful. I'll give it a try soon. How many pages should the book have for this?

I prefer less than 300 pages or a little over is fine as well. The one I used in the demo had 316 pages. Definitely nothing over 400 pages because I find books that thick are too awkward to display. You want a nice balance between the folded and unfolded pages. I hope this helps.

Could you please tell us how many pages do you usually have for one of your designs?

I prefer using books that are less than 300 pages so they are not too thick. Definitely no more than 350 pages, otherwise I find the book is awkward to display.
