It's amazing to see Jane Austen's beautiful handwriting and then to imagine her pen scratching across the page. A blizzard is on its way here in CT, so it's an extra special treat to see your gorgeous spring footage!

Dear Miranda, I am always so happy when Sunday arrives and there will be a new video by you! What a stunning book you received from the publisher. The Lady Susan Volume looks so beautiful! I adored "Wintering" and now, of course, I need to buy "Enchanted". I've already finished "The Wind in the Willows" and I'm looking forward to the book club discussion. For some reason I had never read it as a child. Some sentences touched my heart deeply. It was lovely to see your mother again! Thank you for all your lovely and heartwarming work! Have a wonderful week, you two!

Ida Cook is one of my very favorite romance authors - she wrote dozens of books that were a huge cut above every other Harlequin (published by Mills & Boon in England) romance and I have been collecting them since the early 70's. Her pen name was Mary Burchell and she also published an autobiography under her real name called We Followed Our Stars in 1976 describing her and her sister's experiences. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in this author - her life was fascinating! I am absolutely thrilled that you mentioned her -- thank you sooo much!

Hello Amanda, just finished reading the "stationary shop" by Marjan Kamali. I can't remember if it was one you had ever reccomended , published in 2019. As you are always sharing your reads with us thought I'd share this one. It was a lovely read, a wonderful love story, sprinkled with vivid descriptions of cooking......hope you'll have a chance to read it. Beautiful cover, which first attracted me. Enjoy your week ahead

Thank you so much for all the recommendations Miranda. I now a have a dedicated book where I list all these books for future reading delight. You so often send me in a different reading direction with what you feature and I liked the sound of ALL of them. I really enjoyed your visit to your local bookshop and it has prompted me to make a list of all the independent bookshops in my area, which I aim to visit (and support) within the very near future. Best wishes to you and your mum from Lottie in Suffolk.

Miranda, I keep tuning in to your book reviews to find new authors and titles and have been happily on an Amazon book buying binge because of you. 😉The pile next to my comfy chair is growing! However, this question is a bit "off topic"....I simply adore all of the gorgeous wallpaper in your house! It creates such beautiful background ambiance in your videos, especially when you add a vase of fresh flowers, and placed on the cupboards are lovely delicate floral pieces of china, teacups, pitchers....What can you tell us about this wallpaper?? Is it something that was already in the house when you moved into it, or have you and your mother had it hung? They are so very stunning! Can you tell us something about it in one of your future videos? I'd love to hear more about it and I'm sure many of your other fans have also noticed it and would like to see you feature it. Thank you so much for all of the work you do in order to bring many hitherto unknown books and authors to us!

Hi Miranda, loved today's video and I am very happy that you recommended Jenny Agutter reading I Capture the Castle as I have audio credits to use and love hearing what others enjoyed. I don't know if you have listened to Haptic and Hue podcast, if not then I think you would enjoy listening to Jo Andrews talking all things textiles. Jo recommended The Dress Diary of Mrs Anne Sykes and I am looking forward to reading that and hope you enjoy your copy too. Best wishes and happy reading, Teresa 📚♥

OMG, I adored All My Wild Mothers. It's so beautifully written - poetic and lyrical, tender and deeply moving. I was absolutely spellbound by it. Perfect for anyone who loves nature and is seeking a gentler yet wilder path. And you can't help but admire her determination to create something beautiful out of life’s inevitable grief and harshness (and trying to teach her young son about both). I couldn't recommend it more highly and can't wait to hear what you (and your mum, I think she'll like it too) think of it! xx

Caroline Norton's life very sad as she could do very little due to the fact she was a woman...and it is even sadder that this is the case in many places still for women today. Honestly sometimes I do not understand men and what they can get out of treating women like this for millennia. None of them would exist if not a woman had given them life...risking her own in the process.

Just love how you and your dear mother make literature and the aesthetics involved come to life! Because of your love for beautiful literature and the lives of the authors I ordered Reunion, Wild Places, and Someone at a Distance-got the Whipple book from Poshmark-lucky! If I may recommend a beautiful and live within you book about different generations reception to inherited wealth(loggingst the turn of the century) along with family secrets that were unfortunately harboured too long amd weaves in the voice of trees in BC forests and prairie life in Saskatchewan then Greenwood by Michael Christie is a must-you won’t be disappointed!

That is wonderful edition of Lady Susan, one to be treasured. I also like the independent bookshop edition of Enchantment - definitely one to add to my wish list. I've had 'I Capture the Castle' waiting to be read since I bought it last year, it sounds as if this is definitely the right time to pick it up. I've already started on Wind in the Willows, I'm sure I read it as a child but really don't remember it clearly. I must say, I agree with Mole about leaving off the spring cleaning and having an adventure instead. The Dress Diary sounds fascinating. I also think Days in the Caucasus and Overture of Hope could be very interesting. Just had to edit this to say that I've found an online stockist of the independent bookshop edition of Enchantment. I instantly ordered it. Feeling very happy!

I believe I let out quite a squeal seeing that beautiful edition of “Lady Susan”. The powder blue cover and Jane Austen’s own hand is really something. So many more tempting reads. “Overture of Hope” sounds extraordinary, “The Case of the Married Woman” equally fascinating. The dress diary too! I think I will pick that up for my mum. I hope to finish “The Wind in the Willows” in time for the CBC discussion. What a lovely read. “I Capture the Castle” has a special place in my heart. Perfect for spring. Thank you again Miranda for another transportive video. ❤️❤️❤️

Loved the beginning of this video with the beautiful filming of spring flowers. You are lucky having such a great independent bookshop near you! Such interesting book recommendations as always, I especially like the sound of The Dress Diary book. The Lady Susan manuscript book is simply stunning, so beautiful and also so amazing to see Jane Austen’s actual handwriting! I have recently finished listening to I Capture The Castle (again), I also have the one narrated by Jenny Agutter who reads it perfectly for me. I’m listening to lots of Jeeves and Wooster right now, the Jonathan Cecil narration. There’s lots in my reading pile, but thinking The Agency for Scandal, The Game of Hearts, The Whispering Muse and The Marriage Portrait first, and The Wind in the Willows of course (but may listen to that one, I love the Michael Hordern narration). Thanks so much for another wonderful and inspiring video Miranda!

Hi Miranda, another lovely vlog! When you were outside at the beginning looking at the changes going on , I decided to do the same thing, to go out and notice the beginning of Springtime! The Jane Austin book is beautiful. I have discovered recently , from working on my families geneology, that I am related to Jane Austin. She is my 10th cousin, 3 x's removed. I am so excited. I have the family tree and we are related through my fathers grandmother, on his British side. (her name was Aldrich, my dad was McFarland). So now, I am for sure going to eventually get copies of all of her works, and read them all. Hope you and your mum have a great week! 🤗

Another lovely Sunday vlog, Miranda. It seems strange for me to recommemd books to you (when I am usually the one buying books on your recommendation) but I would like to suggest a book that I read recently which I loved. It's about love, grief, and nature conservation. It is based in the remote landscapes of Ireland, Australia and Greenland and is so atmospheric and moving ... and beautifully written. The book is "The Last Migration" by Charlotte McConaghy (and I loved it so much I have just picked up her second book "Once there were wolves"). If you do pick it up, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy beginning of Spring! 💐💕

Lovely video Miranda! I loved exploring the Ripon Bookshop with you guys! It's also so interesting to see the daffodils! We are still buried under snow and expecting more with no sign of emerging buds yet...but the cedar waxwings are back and this morning on a hike I spotted a chipmunk, so it's near! Thank you again for recommending 'Daughter of the Moon Goddess'. My Mom is crazy about a show on Netflix called "Love Between Fairy and Devil" and after watching it I feel "Daughter" would make an amazing Mother's Day Gift (as you also suggested). I must visit The Ripon Bookshop next time I’m in Ripon. I usually try and find some used classics in Oxfam and some of the surrounding charity shops. I’ve found some wonderful books whenever I’ve been. But I always forget the Bookshop until I drive passed it! Next time, I’ll make sure I go there first 😊

Enchantment sounds a very relaxing read. Maybe something of the lines of Elizabeth Goudge(I have just finished 'The Rosemary Tree') for the umpteenth time --- wonderful. Am about to start 'A Mansion for Murder' by Frances Brody. These are set in Yorkshire - so you and your Mum may like them.

It’s a non-fiction book, but Katherine May is a lovely writer. I do like Elizabeth Goudge, but I didn’t manage to get very far with the Frances Brody I read. A shame, as I did like the Yorkshire setting!

This is a very late comment, but I am binge watching. You may cover this later when reflecting on the reading but wondered if you are aware that the author of "All my wild mothers" was a participant in a fascinating BBC documentary around a decade ago called The Convent (it's on KZbin) where she and three others moved into a convent for 12 weeks to explore their lives and those of the nuns.

Hello Miranda, I always enjoy accompanying you and your mum to search for books! I am going to get the audiobook of Capture the Castle, to accompany my physical copy. And Jane Austen's handwriting looks so assured and confident! Have a wonderful rest of your Sunday and wishing you a good week ahead. Best wishes, Jason

How cheerful this was to watch as I look out my window to snow! Miranda, is there a list somewhere of 2023 Comfort Book Club selections? I don’t recall seeing the selections listed this year and wasn’t able to find it by looking back on your channel. I always enjoy reading along and then watching you and your Mum discuss.

The information is on the Comfort Book Club page on my blog, Judi, which is linked in the video description box of almost every video (including this one). And the upcoming books are also announced at the end of each CBC video. Xx

Thank you so much for the Banine book. This woman mainly interesting (to me) because of her mad love for Ernst Jünger. I didn't know about this memoir and surprisingly found it in Russian. Will be reading it asap. Great choice of books, I put some of them in a basket. Have a great week, both you and your mum❤

Some super recommendations there Miranda, thank you so much! I have the Dress Diary book waiting to be read and I am really looking forward to getting to it! I Capture The Castle is a favourite of mine, and I have just ordered Dodie Smith's autobiography (Look Back With Love, I think it's called), from Slightly Foxed. Currently slogging through 'The Japanese Lover' by Isabel Allende for my book group. You are lucky to have such a pretty independent bookshop locally, thank you for taking us along with you! X
