you get it. welcome to another book to movie review! keep in mind: there is nothing wrong with movie creators taking inspiration from books! my approach is merely to observe it as if it Could have been a direct adaptation. i've wanted to do this type of video for years at this point and it is really satisfying to finally do it.
are there any other stories you want me to talk about? let me know in the comments!

Thanks for the great video! I really loved listening to the differences between the book and the movie! Maybe you could do Coraline by Neil Gaiman next?

tysm! i would love to do something like this for coraline, i've watched the movie a couple times but i've never read the book so it would definitely be interesting to work backwards from what i normally do, thank you for the idea!

Kubrick’s vision for The Shining would’ve virtually never worked if he followed King’s original vision my opinion. Kubrick is subtle about his work. He wants the audience to make an interpretation of his work. Not a redirection of someone elses’ work because it’s accurate. The Torrances are portrayed as a realistic abusive relationship. A meek person allowing themselves too be stepped on by a more hot-headed and domineering person. In the book, they’re a failing relationship, trying to pull themselves together. The underlining theme of Kubrick’s film is the banality and normality of abuse and death. Jack having regret for his actions against hurting Danny don’t capture the concept of his character being an abusive man. It humanizes him, and that’s not the point. If anything, humanizing misses the point of Kubrick’s vision, as that suggests abusiveness has a degree how far It can go, when it’s to show how typical and unoriginal cruelty and violence is. The same goes for Wendy. Allowing her character to have a semblance of strength or control over herself when faced against someone like Jack undermines the nature of the meek being the prey of the abusive and violent alike. Wendy is forced to conflict violence against violence when her and Danny’s lives are threatened by Jack, or another supposed entity in the Overlook, furthering the cycle of violence. Danny’s role throughout the film is subtle, on purpose. He’s a traumatized boy, whose gift of the shining ability is really a curse. Danny’s shining exposes him too more horrid and violent imagery, worsening the traumatization Jack inflicted onto him. When he’s exposed to these things, he clears it up, or told too clear it up. When Jack mentions the Donner Party around Danny, and Wendy is visibly bothered by that, he clears it up by saying he saw it on the television. When he sees the Grady twins in the hallway, Tony tells him it’s like pictures in a book. When the doctor who visits Wendy and Danny talk about Danny’s injury from Jack, Wendy treats it as no big problem and basically says it’s common with children and a parent. Kubrick’s Shining is about The Banality and basic nature of evil. It’s too common to bat eyes at anymore, since you see countless headlines about someone murdered or shot dead, or a fire killing a family of five. It’s all usual and expected, and therefore treated as ordinary in the film.
