So looking forward to your Netgalley reviews. I get all the best rom com recs from you! I'm also having trouble really deeply connecting to a lot of YA contemporaries as I exit my twenties. Not all of them, but much more than before. Also, I love you, but you're killing me with your pronunciation of "Jimenez" which is one of my family names 😭 It's "hee-men-ez"

My favs from Net Galley/Edelweiss the past couple of months. I found these unputdownable: Parachutes by Kelly Yang, The Mall by Megan Mccafferty, Gimme Everything You Got by Iva Marie Palmer, I’ll Be the One by Lyla Lee, Admission by Julie Buxbaum, Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Solomon, Girl Gone Viral by Alisha Rai, Mad Bad and Dangerous to Know by Samira Ahmed, You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle.

I just signed up for BOTM club and got the Guest List! Super excited. My second book is A Gentleman in Moscow. I've been wanting to read that forever and every time I try to get it from the library there so many hold on it. It's been out for a few years now. do you ever find yourself like wanting to start one book you start one book and then you want to start another booking start another book? Having a hard time like focusing on one book.

I am two decades removed from being a teen, but I still find well-written ya novels whose characters I connect with. I’m thinking of books like Eleanor & Park, Dumplin and The Sun is Also a Star. Granted, there are plenty of ya books that miss the mark for me, but there are plenty of gems in there too. For that matter, I also have deeply connected with some of the characters from middle grade books I’ve read recently, like The Remarkably Journey of Coyote Sunrise to name one. I guess for me it comes down to the writing and character development, no matter what the targeted age range is. 🙂

I also just read The Guest List, it was great! Well, I listened to the audiobook which has a full cast, they were all amazing. I gave it 4.5 because some things felt too convenient for the plot’s sake, but otherwise a phenomenal book.

I read The Southern Book Clubs guide to Slaying Vampire’s! I loved it! It was graphic. I guess because they were so genteel and prim and proper that when the violence came along it was surprising. I will follow that author, In The future.

I'm Not interested in YA contemporary because of age gap. I'm in my 40s i just can't relate to teen drama. I've enjoyed YA sci-fi, fantasy and thrillers but not hard hitting contemporary. There're a lot if good titles but it's just an age thing 😊

It never occurred to me to read YA as an adult until I started on Booktube. But I’m running into the same issue - I feel too much of a gap
@irishmoxie4 жыл бұрын
I DNF's both The Best Laid Plans and What I Like About You. I was really offended by few comments in What I Like About you that insinuated YA is only to be read by teens. I didn't understand the author's intent in alienating at least half her audience. And there was so much lying in the book. I think there is still good YA being published that can be read by an older audience but these two books felt like they were written for teens.
@Bookables4 жыл бұрын
I agree and understand this comment!
@mbrady1994 жыл бұрын
I grew out of YA and new-adult entirely around age 32 also. Even if the main characters are in their 20s and are "adult", I pass. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. You don't have to read books you no longer enjoy. And it doesn't seem like you enjoyed the majority of your YA reads this year.

I've been very sad to find myself feeling virtually the same about a lot of YA books. I've loved YA for years, but the older I get (I'm 32) the less I sympathize and the less I can tolerate the immaturity...which is ridiculous, because the books are FOR teenagers who (surprise) are actually immature and going through similar situations. Meh. Basically I'm just getting old. :P

Best Laid Plans sounds like it reflects the very worse of today's teen culture. Having raised 4 girls, it has gotten harder and harder for a young women to value chastity.
