I find it very satisfying when creators do what they love, and watching you read books you enjoy (or think you will enjoy) is very nice to watch. I'm glad you do that and I hope you will keep doing that because there is something very sad about creators reviewing books that they think will give them more views. Happy Emily is the best Emily :)

I am definitely feeling the slump too. I am doing pretty good with audio books but it has been a long while since I actually finished a physical book. 😅I can read a few pages at most before I move on to do something else 😓

Robin Hobb is so worth persevering with. The titles always were very misleading as they were never much about the assassin thing. I've read all of her books over the years and I'm re-reading them myself and for the first time on audio book and oh my they are so long!! I've also just bought the three body problem because of your videos. Love your vids thank you 😀

Now that you've read The Bands of Mourning, you can read Mistborn: A Secret History. It's a short story that goes into the details of explaining the very last page.

Hi Emily, so glad you enjoyed The Dark Forest. The third book still have the same problem, be prepared haha, but the third one is much faster pace, better writing, and the concepts are insane. As for the dark forest theory, I found the author has made it very believable, especially when he explained it along with the other two concepts. This author has such an amazing mind.

I think prioritizing 5 star reads is a great idea to get you through the stress of a pandemic! Great reading month!
@ineseatscookies4 жыл бұрын
The best feeling of opening up KZbin is seeing one of your favorite people *just* posted a video! 😁 Even though you didn't read as much as you were hoping I'm really glad you read at least one 5* book! It might just be me, but you seemed a little down (subdued?) on this video; I hope the pandemic isn't bringing you down and that you can find your momentum once again 🥰 and I totally think you should just go for books you feel like you'll love, that's exactly the kind of treat you should give yourself right now 🤗 My last read was One of Us is Next and I absolutely adored it! (I may be biased because I adored One of Us is Next too! 🤐) It took me some time to get through the begining of the book and I only picked it up a few days later, but from there it was a full-on "reading the whole day" kind of experience I hadn't had in so long!

The fact that 1995 is now "old school" definitely makes me feel OLD !
@masoodvoon89994 жыл бұрын
I'm old and it's old school for me. It is before grimdark was mainstream, harry potter, sanderson. Also those famous authors that had been writing or in process of writing their series Erickson, Jordan, Martin - only Jordan was well known but fantasy wasn't as mainstream.

I also have been feeling kinda slumpish. But I started to read short books and I ended up loving few of them. I actually really liked Starsight, but it was slower than Skyward. I didn't mind because I was intrigued by the world building and like you said the description of the alien races. I LOVED The Dark Forest! I know what you mean about the first half. The sexism did put me off a bit, but the wallfacer project and everything surrounding Luo Ji was so bizarre and interesting that I kept going because I wanted to know what the plans were. And, like you said that second half was so good! I've been slowly working my way through the third book and can't wait to see how it ends. I honestly don't feel intelligent enough to understand everything in the trilogy, but I love how creeped out it makes me feel.
@BookswithEmilyFox4 жыл бұрын

The Dark Forest thing was so epic and such a surprise! I was trying to figure out what Luo Ji was going to do and I kept coming up empty, and the revelation simply blew my mind! The dark forest makes so much sense though, I'm not sure I will ever be able to view questions about the existence of alien life through any other filter from now on. All I could do is think about Voyager I and II in interstellar space and shudder. I did finish the third book and I can tell you it is absolutely insane, I'm really excited to see what you think about it. :)

I've been reading a lot since the lockdown started and I've mostly been rereading favourites that I haven't had time to get around to the last couple of years. However, I did read Skyward for the first time, and being a huge Sanderson fan I thought I was going to love it but it left me thinking 'meh'. Some parts -the romance- were extreamly boring and felt as of from a totally different book other parts were extreamly interesting. It took me so long to read the book but in the end i was really glad and I loved the ending. Funny thing about the Dark Forest concept it was written in the synapses in the book service that i use so it skewed the experience a little bit 😂😂😂 Also is it just me or did the author somehow missed the whole continent of Africa in this book ?? 😏
