I too have seen Tilapia die off like that. And it seems like it always happens when the water temperature just gets too cold for them. I'm pretty sure they need to be in a place where the water temp is 60+ degrees.

Hey LoJo, I only know what I learn from you in regards to fishing. ;-) That being said your neighbor Mr BamaBass stocked his 5 acre pond with some Tilapia this spring in hopes they'd keep the algae as well as keeping the rest of the natural order of large mouth as the king of the jungle and keep the trout, second and third generation bass and bluegill in check. The one thing I do remember Bama discussing in his video that Tilapia don't do well overwinter and might only have a couple survive and he'd have to restock them in the spring.

Can we get another spillway fishing video. Try using a inline feeder next time with panko bread crumbs, cherry jello powder, and corn in it. The feeder will attract carp, gar, catfish, and other fish like those. And mabey a overnight fishing video at the spillway or somwhere else?

LOJO that’s crazy you were in Dallas and fishing the exact same spot I tried a few months ago at the second pond! Crushed it there with crank baits! Sorry you didn’t get more but North Texas weather is always crazy! If come back I’m sure us locals will tell you other hot spots! Happy new year!

so tilapia can not usually survive under 55f, the adults cant at least, the last spawn of the year can make it through, depending on how cold it gets, which is how tilapia can overtake a body of water. we have tilapia here in golf ponds where i live in NC, and we 100% have sometimes full weeks below freezing and the next year the tilapia will be in the ponds at the golf course, i even asked how often they stock them, and i was told they haven't since the person i asked had worked there

Tilapia come from Africa and usually die when water temps get 55 degrees and lower.

Tilapia can not survive water temperature below 50 degrees which is why you were seeing all those dead tilapias. They are often stocked during the warmer months and to get rid of algae or serve as forage for predatory fish like bass

You can catch koi but need 4 lbs test line with a tiny hook use corn or bread

I’ve been kicked out of a Disney resort pond after a 8+ broke my rod and brand new 15lb braid like it was nun. Came back with a new rod only to a security guard acting like snakes and gators be something new for me 🤷🏼‍♂️🤣 had to respect his wishes before I got told to leave the resort so I never got the submarine of a bass 😢

Me and a guy was fishing a pond kinda like this last year, beaver literally attacked my hellbender, got it stuck by his tail and went for my buddies kid!...luckily i had 30lb braid on and yanked him around a bit before he climbed up on the bank and went rabid asf! Craziest thing i ever seen..and no i didn't end up catching him..was a solid 95+ lb beaver.
