Great video! Labor rights Bridgerton caught my ear lol Thanks so much for the mention I’m glad to know I’m a real influencer lol , I haven’t got to civil disobedience yet in my Henry David Thoreau collection but the way you describe him is exactly how he acted In Walden too, good at playing it off as ”it’s the thought that counts” I really think he just didn’t like to pay taxes. So sad to hear about the book tube deaths, I hope you’re taking care of yourself. We’re all so fragile

Well if you are going to dabble in romance, that would be a good one, because it definitely was more focused on the evil factory exploitation situation than the romance! 😁 HDT is likely to be sooo frustrating when you get to Civil Disobedience... I was hoping for radical, and it was not. Much more selfish and not self aware person of privilege, as they so often are. Completely agree with your assessment, he pretty well just doesn't want to pay taxes and has no conception of his reliance on society or other people.

Every time I hear anything about Henry David Thoreau, I just am so amused by how ridiculous the guy sounds. Thelma sounds super fun! Your week does not, though - construction and lost internet sound awful. I hope it finishes soon!

Thoreau is so silly! I had some idea, but even that was so far an underestimation of his absurdity and just total rejection of any participation in society that doesn't directly benefit him. At least I got some laughs out of it I guess? You would absolutely have a good time with Thelma if you get a chance to see it sometime I am sure. Thank you, It's definitely been just ongoing tooooo much.

I am always happy to see something come out from Hannah Gadsby. I had hoped that she would have more of a set in the special but it was still really good all around!

Absolutely! You are spot on, anything from Gadsby is an instant add for me too. I really wish she'd got a bigger piece, but love that Hannah was able to use that credit in the bank of netflix to platform others too. Have you watched Sex Education? She had a decent ongoing role in the last season that was great.

@@ReadBecca I haven't watched Sex Education! I didn't realize she had a role!

Yes, it's not major, but is an ongoing cameo thru the season

I had checked out your driver is waiting but ended up not reading it. Just ran out of time. I should try it again.

Your Driver is Waiting felt like not my sort of thing initially, it has a lot of anger built in and some things I don't agree with at all. But it's also gripping and so readable, if you get the chance to try it again I would really recommend going for the audio, it's so easy to get in her head that way.

Hi Rebecca! I’m so glad to hear you had fun with Your Driver Is Waiting. I haven’t read anything by Jeff Vandermeer. Is Strange Bird a good place to start? PS Hope your couch arrives safely.

I do think Strange Bird could be read on it's own for a meaningful story, especially a reader who will get a lot from just sinking in the beauty of the writing I think could jump in. However, it is concurrent with Borne, and has a lot of material and character references that really benefit from knowing who they are, but not explained in Strange Bird. So, my feeling is definitely a richer experience to read Borne then Strange Bird. Either Borne or Annihilation are both very good starting points, he has a really strong eco-sf aspect I think you will like.

@@ReadBecca Thanks for your expertise. I guess I will put Annihilation at the top of my Jeff V list. 😘

HDT sounds like a modern-day Libertarian (asshole). I'm constantly blown away by the utter selfishness of people. Also, I feel like I'm the only person not watching Bridgerton but it just doesn't appeal to me. Miscommunication or lack of communication is the main reason I don't enjoy romance. Ooh, I love Hannah Gadsby. I feel like maybe I should renew my Netflix account 🤔 Sorry for your stressful week. I'm glad Dusty has his forever home. I didn't know Alice but I had heard about her from other BT friends and I'm saddened for all those who will miss her.

Yep, you are spot on about HDT. It was especially disappointing to go into what I was hoping would be more of an essay about collective action, to find extreme individualist rhetoric totally against his fellow person and out for himself 😫 Bridgerton I am definitely questionable on reading the books, there is a major element in book 1/season 1 that is a massive trigger for me, but they toned it down at least a bit in the show. But otherwise I find what they've created as far as the world of the show so well done, it's mostly very compulsive to watch and comforting, almost on par with Heartstopper honestly. it seems like more and more people are against the miscommunication trope in romances thankfully, so I think it's increasingly coming out of favor and easier to find things without that being a big element as it used to be.
