Today we're at the TSUNASHIMA TARUMACHI branch of BOOKOFF SUPER BAZAAR in Kanagawa Prefecture. It’s about a 15min walk from both Shin Tsunashima and Tsunashima stations. Both these stations are easily accessible from central Tokyo by train, taking around 30mins.
The footage is from 2 separate trips😊

Hi from Australia - I just love your channel, I collect kokeshi dolls which are very hard to find here but I have managed to grow my collection to about 50 ( took me 15 years) ....mostly found in charity shops. I also collect art glass and I was salivating when you showed all the beautiful Japanese glass vases, the orange one with gold flecks was just stunning. Can't wait for your next video. This Bookoff Super Bizarre has such interesting items. My local Good Will never has such interesting things. (Or, maybe they’re just not interesting to me!) I think I spied some lusterware teacups at the start of the video! Not sure. I really like the Five-yen turtles. The patina on the coins makes them special. The embroidered samurai was SO intriguing, but the line across it bothered me too. I was interesting in the sake warming pot. Too bad the lid was missing. But the tanuki kettle was adorable! I heard tanuki are associated with sake? Don’t know if that’s true. I loved the woodblock print at the end. Love the story of the artist. Hmm. I just turned 50. Maybe I could start on a new career path too! Thanks for a lovely video! Too bad about the rain! ❤❤

Hi Jenny❣️Good to hear you agree about the line in the embroidered piece. It looked a bit strange right? Regarding tanuki, oftentimes you find ceramic ones holding a sake bottle and bank book, representing the "sake-buying-boy". During the Edo Period when sake became more available to the general public, children were made to run errands to buy sake from liquor stores. They'd be seen running with these large sake bottles😊Love the story of the woodblock print artist too...had the same reaction as you! Thank you as always for watching and for your lovey comment🥰

Great information - I’ve taken notes! I bought the sousaku kokeshi in the background at 6:15 last week! I also bought a whole tea set of kutani ware just like the colored teacup you picked up. 1250 yen for the teapot and 5 cups! Hi Nancy❣️Thank you so much for watching as always! I buy an orange woodworking oil from Amazon Japan. I think it's a domestic brand. Has a weird name - "Sin"😂The orange scent can linger for a couple weeks on larger antique/vintage furniture, but disappears almost immediately after wiping down smaller items like figurines, picture frames etc. Thank you always for your lovely comment!🥰

Hello again from Australia ❤ My mother and I are off to Tokyo in 20 days time. What book-off stores in the Tokyo area do you recommend for searching for items similar to the items you find? I see only some of the locations have ceramics etc. Where do you recommend? We are at Oedo market on our first day, we might see you there!

Hi Yvette🥰As rent prices are high and limited availability for large spaces within central Tokyo, most BOOK OFF Super Bazaar branches that have a substantial amount of ceramics etc. are either on the outskirts, or next door to Tokyo in Chiba, Kanagawa or Saitama prefectures. Saying that, they aren’t that far out of Tokyo. I live closer to Kanagawa so visit the Tsunashima and Minatocho branches most (Minatocho is the largest in Kanagawa pref). If Chiba pref is closer to where you’re staying, then Makuhari branch may be convenient for you. You’re coming at a nice time of year! Summer heat has finally subsided so it’s super comfortable to check out the markets❣️
