An interview, over a cup of tea, with author Joe Hill about his new collection of short stories, 'Full Throttle.' Joe covers everything from what his dad, Stephen King, read to him as a kid, how he thinks Pennywise from IT is actually a boggart, and why we love to read scary stories.

Joe Hill: I started writing as Joe Hill, so no one would know who my dad is. Also Joe Hill *looks like the spitting imagine of his dad from 70s*

I love Joe Hill. He is my favorite author.. I love him in the details. Lots of details are hilarious. So deep and sensitive and here is the best part…. All the way to the END. And it ends. No hanging plot ever. I LOVE JOE HILL.. His excellent writing makes me so happy. Sensitivity to time like “ the eighties”. So fantastic. I have to struggle through the painful Parts and see if I can stand it. He stretches me, but then sends the reader a redeeming quality. In this world we need redemption. Love love love Joe Hill.❤❤❤❤

I admire him for not taking advantage of the last name to get published. He could easily have used it to get a leg up but he wanted to make his own name. Kudos.

I remember the first time I read a Joe Hill book, Heart Shaped Box, and thinking his writing kinda reminds me of Stephen King (who's my fave author since I was a kid), only to find out he's his son. He's a great author in his own right though, and I especially love his short stories.

One more timed “ I love Joe”. I feel loved as I read. Joe was loved by mom and dad and I feel that as I was not . Thank you for that Joe Hill family: love you forever

I began writing at 13 too. But neither of my parents were writers, and at that time I wasn't a reader. To say I wasn't much of a reader would be an understatement; I didn't read anything. So, I really didn't have inspiration to go on. Just my own imagination, which was the best inspiration I had, and the only inspiration I really needed at that time. It's gotten more difficult as the years have progressed, as I understand morw about writing and what it takes to be a writer. I love it.

I love this guy so much. It's easy to forget how exceptional his writing is because he makes it look effortless. Then you read his latest and get blown away all over again. Or reread something after awhile and just shake your head about how good it is. Just reread Horns. Good golly that's a stunner. And Daniel Radcliffe is one of my favorite actors, what a job he did with It Perrish. Just phenomenal. Love you, Joe. You've usurped your dad's place in my heart, although your mom's place is secure.

I will tell you why I enjoy horror, Joe. To distract me from the pain of Lonliness and sadness. Horror is the quickest way out of despair. It focuses a person on the here and now, on the physical world. It takes you quick out of one painful emotion like “no body loves me “ to Yikes! I am scared! And scared is interesting compared to the hole of depression.❤

Hmm... I've Never Thought About it that way before, but I Can Totally See Your Point and Agree with You. I was Diagnosed with Chronic Depression as a Teenager, which now seems a little Ironic after Readin Your Comment, cuz I Just Realized that That was also when I Really Started Gettin into Horror Movies. I Always Thought I watched them for the Adrenaline Rush, but Perhaps it was More Than That and I just Didn't Catch iT till now. Maybe it was a Way that I Coped with My Depression as Well. Watchin Horror Movies is a Good Way to Convince Yourself that Things Could Always Be Worse. 🤔

Wow what he said about Pennywise being a boggart in the Harry Potter universe and how he would easily be dispelled really sticks with me. I know that ignores the macroverse and interdimensional aspect of It but still, a wizard would have a better chance of fairing against It than the loser's club. If ka wills it that is.
