Just saying that you are the one that sparked my love for reading! I'm so thankful for your channel and now that I'm an avid reader my life has been so much less stressful. I found you when you had the bright neon red hair. Yet again thank you so much for inspiring me to start reading. So far I've read about 125-130 books.

Haven't read / DNF'd any of these myself, but I love watching these types of videos. I hardly ever let myself DNF so I find the whys and hows of DNFing super interesting. I just picked up "American Gods" - good to hear that you liked it, and plan on finishing it!

I find it so interesting that you want to start all over again! I read Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson (over 1000 pages) in two really big chunks a little over a year apart, I think lol. I really didn't want to go back and re-read it and I felt like I had remembered enough to that I didn't need to. But I would also pick it up and read a bit of it every once in awhile in that in between time. :)

I really didn't like Jane Eyre. Don't worry - you're not alone. I did finish it, but only because it was required reading in my high school. I'm with you on American Gods. I've started that one twice and just keep getting distracted from it. It's super interesting though. I just need to dedicate some time to it at some point though, because I'm curious to know how it ends up!

Have you ever listened to The Sword and Laser podcast? Veronica Belmont and Tom Merritt discuss fantasy and sci-fi novels, and Veronica's term for books she didn't finish has long been "lemmed", which stems from a book by Stanislaw Lem(I believe) that she just couldn't get into, and therefore simply dropped. As for books I couldn't finish(or even really get into), the one that stands out is called Faeries of New York(about actual faeries, in New York City). It had a praise blurb by Neil Gaiman on it, but for whatever reason I just found the book utterly unreadable even in spite of that.
@beautifulrocker937 жыл бұрын
I've really only had 2 dnf's so far. The first one was Armada by Ernest Cline. That one was a rough read and my eyes were getting tired from rolling them so much while reading. Recently I didn't finish Senlin Ascends but its one I will come back to. Don't think I was in the right reading mentality (personally rough week) so had to put it down for the time being

If you don't get to Infernal Devices, maybe don't worry about it? The first two books are great, but the last one is such a let down I always warn people against it. The ending seemed way too unrealistic and furstrating, and it outright lies to you at one point. I know, UNPOPULAR OPINION! But it just was a very frustrating ending to an otherwise really good series.

TID didn't live up to all the hype for me. I read books 1-5 of TMI and loved them. Between 5&6 I read TID and I did enjoy it until probably end of book 2 or beginning of book 3. I hated the love triangle and how much time it took Tessa to choose. She became annoying and her choice at the end wasn't really a choice. Only person she could be with was her only option.

I never finished Mockingjay. I got so bored. Also, I hate the way they make you read like 10 books in an English college class and then you get put on the spot when you didn't finish. No use saying its because you have 10 other books to read in other classes. I only finished about 3 of the 9 books in my Gothic lit class. One was The Shining which I really wanted to read but was assigned at the time I had other essays and books to read.

Amanda I think the new characters and the concept intrigued me so much, I could forgive the lack of...anything coming from the main character. Which was on purpose of course, but understandably difficult to write. It's a good thing Gaiman has so many layers of interesting concepts to his writing, otherwise I don't thing he could pull that off so well. I mean even in the short story "sequel" The MC doesn't seem to have much going on upstairs and just seems quite whatever and aimless.

I liked Shadow the most, personally. I just felt like because he was so detached it was really uninteresting and it read like more of a weird travel book of random junk in the US.
