Literally all of your reasons are entirely valid and relatable

Listen they might all be excuses, but the excuses are all valid 🤣 for Greywaren, Chris has done the same with Discworld. He doesn't want it to be the end! Yellowface is good, but honestly? Don't go in expecting to be blown away. It's a little on the nose and pointing out the racism to white folks that really don't see it (like, as a white person even I thought it was a little obvious so it seems to be aimed at people who are quite unfamiliar with facing racism). Bitter will be such a quick read for you! I really hope you manage to get to it sooner rather than later! I 100% delay books I'm really excited for. I just get nervous that I'm not going to love it as much as I think, or I want to save it for the "perfect" time which is so silly!!💙

I love that Chris has done the same with Discworld! I'm not alone 🤣 Ah, thank you -- it's helpful to know Yellowface is quite on the nose going into it. I absolutely need to prioritise Bitter because I really will zoom for it. I feel you on trying to create the perfect time when we should really dive in 😫

ohhhhh I have a fair few of these! My biggest shame is Fragile Threads of Power but I think it just scares me because of how much I loved Darker Shades! I may have to do a video on this soon and out myself!

Ooh yes, you should do a similar video! Would love to see what you are delaying as well 🤭

Sometimes I get a book and I'm excited to read it, but then the first time that I pick it up I'm not in the mood for it... so it gets a soft DNF and I will eventually come back around to it. 'The Snow Queen' by Joan D. Vinge is currently in this exact situation. Or, like you, I will have loved a previous book so much that I worry that I won't love the next book - 'In the Serpent's Wake' by Rachel Hartman is a current example of this mindset putting me off, because I loved 'Tess of the Road' so much.
@OliviasCatastrophe4 ай бұрын
Oh yes, I'll always advocate for reading according to your mood as that means you'll most likely enjoy the book if you get to it at the right time!
@CaughtBetweenPages3 ай бұрын
“I can’t wait to read it” is an accidental lie every time to the point where if I say it, I can almost guarantee that the universe will conspire against my ability to read the book in question right away 🤣 I’m with you on Greywarren, and have made the compromise with myself that I’d reread all of the Raven Cycle and the Dreamer Trilogy in advance of her adult debut (June of next year I think?) as a goodbye to this universe, one where I’d have a new Maggie book to quell my sorrow about the gangsey’s story being forever-done.
@OliviasCatastrophe3 ай бұрын
Timing things so that you have her new book to look forward to is a very smart thing to do! I hope you enjoy the reread as well 🥹 will forever love the gangsey 💖

So relatable 😂 Past delays and I loved them all: station eleven, the 7 deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, The 13th Tale (weirdly all with numbers in the title 😂,) Current ongoing delay: Love in the Big City and Strange Beasts of China.

Ooh, I have station eleven and it has been on my shelf for a while! So it's good to know it is one that is so worth reading. 😊

I don’t think The Marriage Portrait is better than Hamnet but it is very readable. Maybe read Bitter with the promise to reread Pet after. Maybe that will incentivise you! Book confession: The Persephone short story collection has been on my shelves since the longest I think. Might need to unhaul that one 😂 Great to hear which books you have been putting off reading and I hope you love everything you get to when you get to it. ❤

It's good to know the marriage portrait is a nice read even if Hamnet still reigns superior! Ah yes, it might be time to let that one go... Thanks Charlie x

Ooh... Son Of Neptune... It is considered as young adult though and when I read the Heroes Of The Olympus series they tend to be more mature compared to Percy Jackson And The Olympians series.
@OliviasCatastrophe4 ай бұрын
It’s good to know they are more mature! The lost hero still felt YA but I guess the next one will have older Percy and such, so I can see how it would then become more mature again

Yes and no. I am a mood reader so sometimes when I get the book I am not in the mood to read it. Also, I do have this thing in which if I read a book after I get it and I don't like it I feel like it was a waste of money. But if it sits on my shelf for a while I won't have that feeling if I end up disliking it.
@OliviasCatastrophe4 ай бұрын
True! It's always good to read when you're most in the mood for the book to maximise your chance of enjoying it 😙 You know what? I think I feel the same about if I don't enjoy something but have owned it for longer.
