Goodwill stores have had several books on building designs and carpentry. Usually 99c -2.99 per book. Sometimes they have chiltons automotive books.

One of the things I find beneficial is writing your own guides. I did this for foraging in my area, which includes the picture, if it's poisonous, micronutrient content, and look-alikes.
