If there’s one book I think everyone should read this year, it’s keezano’s Your Life Your Game. It beautifully shows how connecting with God and building meaningful relationships can lead to spiritual growth, and success in both your personal and professional life. This book truly changed my life…a must-read. God bless!💟🙏🏼

You have inspired me to participate more online with this post… it’s so lovely to hear you talk about books. I’m new to reading as an adult hobby, my journey has just begun and so I watch and enjoy recommendations videos for books and I was an avid book tube consumer for a while but i have whittled it down to a few… you and Merphy Napier because your love of books and reading is so evident. In terms of taste, I will need to read more… the current book I’m reading is great. I hope to review it on book tube. Thank you for sharing your love of books.

Another fav of mine from this year was The Celebrants by Steven Rowley. Friendship, grief, an atmospheric vacation house - so good!

I read "The Blue Book of Nebo" and "I Was a Teenage Slasher" (through Literally Dead Bookclub!). Nebo was a five star for me too, I just thought it was an absolutely beautiful story. I'm not a parent, but I can definitely see how it could make you emotional. I gave Teenage Slasher 4 1/2 stars. It was my second SGJ book and I was a little nervous about it because I didn't really like "My Heart is a Chainsaw," but I actually had a lot of fun with this one! I met SGJ at the American Library Association conference in 2023, he was really nice. A lot of your other favorites have been on my TBR and I'm hoping to read this year!

I WILL take this whole list as a recommendation as a way to broaden my reading, and you can't stop me 😤 lol. I am glad you were able to compile a favorites list, despite your reading year being abysmal. And i love how you went really into explaining each. I thought the Django wexller one would be for based on premise alone but you specifying how horny of a read it is has helped me realize that i wouldn't enjoy it as much as i thought. I am grateful for that cause all I've seen SO FAR that have sung this books praises have not pointed out that detail.

I love Autobiography of Red! It was actually one of my course text for a n English Literature subject that I took and I’ve never read anything like it before. It’s doing so much and there is such a depth of analysis you can take on it. I ended up writing my major essay on that book (along with two others, because it was comparative, Fun Home by Alison Bechdel and The Ballad of the Sad Cafe by Carson McCullers… they’re not similar but each does something very different with literature, especially for the time published, so would recommend them).

SGJ has such a distinct & unique authorial voice which you’ll either love or hate. After reading The Only Good Indians this year I cannot stop thinking about it, not only one of my favourite endings of a book but the writing style is a master class in penmanship. I’m obsessed! I’ll be reading his backlist for 2025!

You inspired me to read The Husbands after initially being turned off by negative reviews - I had such a fun time with it too!! Wondering if you’ve heard of The Fold (The Festival of Literary Diversity) Reading Challenge? I think you would enjoy the prompts (romance by an Asian Canadian author, memoir by an transgender author, dystopian novel by an indigenous author, etc.) and find some interesting Canadian reads!
@lumensapace2 күн бұрын
I enjoyed the Stephen Graham Jones one too but I think a lot of what makes it interesting went over my head since I don’t watch slasher movies. If I did, then I think it would be one of my favorite reads of the year.
@elizabethward40242 күн бұрын
Based on some things on this list, I think Future Home of the Living God by Louise Erdrich could really work for you! It’s been described as similar The Handmaid’s Tale, but from an Indigenous perspective. It takes place in a dystopian/science fiction that isn’t really explained since we’re reading the main character’s journal entries. It’s weird, feels unfinished and disjointed at times, and is definitely experimental. It’s been polarizing, but I really loved it. I’d love to hear your opinion on this one!

I am thinking because you liked The Husbands so much you might like This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub, about a 30 year old woman accidentally traveling back to her 16th birthday and then being able to experience different outcomes in her current life. (Also, I'm so happy that The Blue Book of Nebo placed so high up on this list! I know others have recommended it but I believe it was my comment that was the "final straw").

Same. Anytime there’s heavy handed messaging I get instantly mad. To me, it feels like the author doesn’t trust the reader to pick up the themes or draw conclusions. Or they don’t trust their story enough to let it speak for itself.

270 books is kind of an insane amount. I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around it. Are you happy with your reading schedule or is it a KZbin thing? Some Booktubers lately have been making videos advocating for slow reading and not trying to read 100 books a year…let alone three times that! Just curious on your thoughts about this topic. I know this is your job so it’s a little different but still, almost 300 books a year is wild. I wouldn’t remember anything from one month to the next 😅 maybe I’m just dumb though haha
