I have been having a ton of fun with the Vorkosigan saga by Bujold if you ever want episodic space opera. It has a lot of T Kingfisher qualities. Also heard amazing things about her fantasy but haven’t read those yet.

Ok so I almost read that for my BTer best of 2023 recommendations based on you! But I decided to not include any of my ebooks but I 10000000% need to get to Bujold because I am sure I’m going to love her

You can read the Maigret series in almost any order. Simenon didn't go much for continuity. Most take place in Paris; but there are one or two prequel stories featuring young Maigret as a Policeman; and quite a few with an elderly Maigret, solving cases in his retirement.

I just received The Man who died twice from the library 😊. If for some reason you need another long entertaining series available on KU (or everand for audio), I highly recommend Criminal Intentions by Cole McCade, it's basically Criminal Minds but with Gay BIPOC MCs and set in Baltimore instead of Quantico

Huge congrats on such a major accomplishment! I've been working on listening to back episodes of podcasts I've started in the past year, which has given me new book recommendations but also encouraged me to remove plenty of "maybe" books from my TBR. In the process I've realized I need to get on with exploring Ruth Rendell, so that might end up being my major project for 2024.

I’ve already got the first book in Osman’s new series preordered. I hope it will somewhat fill the void while we wait for the next Thursday Murder Club instalment! P.S. I love your sweater! You did a wonderful job.

Congratulations on your reading successes! I have three historical mystery/romance series that you might enjoy. 1) The Josephine Tey mysteries by Nicola Upson: The first one is An Expert in Murder. Number 9 is The Secrets of Winter, a "closed circle" mystery, featuring Marlene Dietrich. The latest book, #11, Shot with Crimson, centers around the filming of Du Maurier's Rebecca. 2) The Malcolm and Suzanne Rannoch books by Tracy Grant: the setting is the Napoleonic War Period and just after. I recommend that you begin with His Spanish Bride, followed by London Interlude, and then Vienna Waltz. 3) The Sebastian St Cyr series by C.S. Harris: the setting is the same as that in #2. The first book is What Angels Fear. Happy reading, Kay

Love a good series! I have really enjoyed the Lady Hardcastle series -- they are perfect for when life is a little too busy or chaotic. I also started and loved the Mary Russell series! Looking forward to the new Richard Osman (pre-ordered) -- and I just started Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians as a read-a-long with my nephew.

Have you read Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books? It takes a couple of books to hit its stride, but it’s such an enjoyable read - funny, imaginative and insightful. Really rewarding to reread as well, I’m on a second read-through at the moment! I’m also in the middle of Assassin’s Quest by Robin Hobb right now. Thank you for raving about the Realm of the Elderlings, I’m loving these books so far.

Nice work on the series! I'm caught up on my Louise Penny and need to make some headway on Robin Hobb (didn't enjoy the Liveship trilogy as much as I had hoped, but did really enjoy the Assassin story line).

You snd I are on the same vibe this year and I find it very motivating. I am also trying to get through some of my backlist TBR, as well as finish off some series I’ve started. I think of a few years ago you did a Read a thon that was a get shit done Read a thon. I think doing something like that again especially with the goals you have this year would be fun.

Wonderful progress! And you're in your pretty handknit sweater. Julia Spencer-Fleming is a favorite of mine. There are only 9 in the series, so I treat myself to one every 18 months or so. I recently read Magic Bites and enjoyed it! Thank you for the recommendation! Have you ever tried the Kate Shugak series by Dana Stabenow? They're set in Alaska. Kate, a strong, independent protagonist, is Inuit, and the books have lots of native american info. A Cold Day For Murder is the first in the series. Enjoy your reads!!

The nerd in me just loves those stats! Something very satisfying about them 😉 I’d be interested to know: have you read much Trollope and can you tell me if you think the Chronicles of Barsetshire are a good place to start? I’ve been curious about him for awhile and I do love character heavy stories, but he has quite a lot of novels and it’s hard to know where to begin.

I think it would be a fine place to start- if you don’t love church politics as much as I do, you could skip The Warden and go straight to Barchester Tower, but then again, The Warden is pretty short so it might be a good taste test for you
