OMG, man Southern first song alone #WON this entire 5th qtr battle! That arrangement to the "Rocky" theme was INSANE! It was musicianship at it's finest! I give mad props to JSU band as well! They sound amazing, but SU always manage to stay ahead of them. After SU played that "Rocky" theme, JSU should've matched it with a song that boast the same level of technicality and musicianship! They didn't, and I was disappointed. One can only assume JSU didn't have a song of that caliber, in their playbook, that could've matched it. JSU Directors probably felt real nauseated, after hearing SU playing that song across the field. SU always pulling out these memorable songs, and I love that about them, and their Directors! SU and JSU song selections were awesome, but SU "Rocky" theme clearly was the highlight of this battle! The "Human JukeBox" has been the most consistent marching band among all our HBCU programs! That's why their considered the best. Southern truly earned their reputation! Well done SU! 👏👏 #OftenImitatedBeverDuplicated#

SU was out for blood!!! I'll give them boombox this year. If JSU had 12 to 15 more trumpets this would be closer. I was hoping for a stronger showing from them. I knew SU was going to be ready after how Crankfest went. They were on it the entire game. I wanted the boom that showed up to Crankfest to show up to boombox. That didn't happen. More growth under this new leadership I think the boom will be a monster. As a whole SU is a class above anybody. Jackson put up a fight so props for that.

2 excellent bands,but SU made a big jump from Crankfest,they seemed hungrier,that were on top of their game last night.Starting the fifth quarter with "Going the Distance" from Bill Conti is something that i don't think any other HBCU band in the country would have the guts to perform,especially in a heated battle like this where every song is so heavily scrutinized.

I can remember jSU people referring to SU as a mellophone and baritone ensemble....🤔 now they tried to duplicate that thought, and look where’s it’s gotten them, NOWHERE. SU’s power and fullness has always been in the trumpets. jSU has switched their style SO much through the years trying to keep up with the Juke, they’ve lost their identity, and SU is STILL lightyears ahead!

I think we are short changing This HBCU band, they are the BEST in any division of college classification. Especially versus the amount of funds the DIV 1 receives. I think from 2017 until now with the sponsorship they are receiving we can tell the difference.The major difference verses money is home grown talent(ie... composers NOT arrangers). I hope ALL the HBCU could get that type of sponsorship in the future. YEARS of excellence and hard work. 1980 band member. when DOC was DOC.

So I was curious about what boom box classic was so Google some shows this is a real battle l grew up in the north Carolina A&T area and only really saw MEAC SCHOOL bands ,no meac school comes close maybe BCU ,out of Daytona or the old FAMU not this year's none as big or as powerful or polished , I have no reason or dog in this battle but from this stand battle I go with JSU, but they rendition of the Rocky was on point and a perfect song to open

Im kind of disappointed that JSU seems to not play under control..they have great sound but its almost like they "trying" too hard to show they are explosive....its messing them up from going to the "next level" of artistry.... SU balances the 4 components so well its embarrassing almost. JSU sounds good but not "next level" which they should be sounding with the pieces they have...something is not right
