@@BoomerChannel_YT - The folks that upload these movies gives us such a special gift! You take time out of your personal lives to entertain us! THANK YOU! (yes I was screaming!) The 'real-time' world can render us a little under the weather. This is where that 1/2 gallon of your favorite ice cream and KZbin comes into play as our rescue!!! Why, it even deters me from my house-cleaning on the weekends! Thanks so much for that excuse alone! When it comes down to 'the mops, brooms and vacuum cleaners' - vs - KZbin...well, it's obvious which will win! I will be so glad when they invent 'the self-cleaning house" (a really smart house too, that can go to work and help pay for itself), with the self-mowing lawn (with the ability to help with those property taxes)!! Now those are the really SMART essentials I want! Oh, I forgot about the '$MART bank account that comes equipped with a 'never-ending balance feature' which will always re-fill it$elf at midnight on Sundays each week. Oh well - it's lights out here at the sanitarium! Have a great Labor Day Weekend ALL!!

The 1980s had some underrated gems, this being one of them. The suspense thriller 'Spellbinder' from 1988, starring the late Karen Preston, is another. All of the main characters in this movie deliver great performances in that they all seem to fight for the greatest share of sympathy from the viewer. Nick (Bostwick) and Sharon (Purcell) (geez, that's sounds like Y&R!) are very convincing as the 1980s yuppie couple whose career-driven lifestyles are putting their marriage increasingly in jeopardy. Sorvino is superb as Marissa's overprotective, controlling father who has created his own, one-man police state right under his own roof. His role is that of a man tormented by past personal tragedy while attempting to have his unfortunate daughter fill the void. It is at this point where I noticed the parallels between this character and that portrayed by the legendary Edward G. Robinson in the 1947 suspense thriller, 'The Red House'! Kaufmann is charming and believable as the unhappy teenage girl who, on the cusp of womanhood, is a good kid in desperate need of guidance before she eventually sacrifices her innocence.

As a woman, I did not agree with the guilty verdict. She was dressed like an adult, was at an adult party, told him she was taking college courses and was drinking alcohol. Who goes around asking for ID before sleeping with someone especially when they appear to be of legal age. The only thing he was guilty of was adultery.

Larisa reminds me of a younger Kate Hudson. The father reminds me of a younger John O’Connor. I would also blame the cousin who was taking her to adult parties till 1am. The father needs to get her into counseling. She thinks she is in love but they didn’t really have a relationship. Such a young girl who thinks she’s grown up. It didn’t just happen. Kids look older than they are a lot of times. The husband is responsible. He is the adult. Even if he thought she was 18, he was the responsible 42 year old. It’s only a movie but I wouldn’t have taken him back. After 18 years of marriage and she had a tough case she was preparing for, yes there were problems but he was so quick to jump into another relationship with such a young person without really any hesitation. And then he sought Marisa out to let her know he split with his wife. He wanted the relationship with Marisa and it would have continued if the father hadn’t found out. Now all of a sudden after he is cleared, it was never about Marisa and he loves his wife again who is a partner in a law firm and he has no job while he makes a movie.

Only 16 is way old enough to know right from wrong, and is the Age of Consent in the UK. In some countries it is younger - she was not a child. Barry Bostwick keep appearing in all the old 80s films. Saw him in one earlier this week.

Here in the United States if a 41-year-old man slept with a 16-year-old girl he would be sitting behind bars for good couple of years. It's called statutory rape and it is illegal. Age of consent is 18.

That is a key point because you have two people, Nick and Marissa, who are both in miserable domestic situations. They meet one another by chance. They become intrigued with one another and then find themselves in a one-night-stand on impulse. This is a story of two unhappy people who were not meant to become any kind of item, but ended up on an inevitable collision course. The most vital people in their lives must eventually come to terms with the fact they both directly contributed this most regrettable and embarrassing situation.
@rio-impetuoso4271
@rio-impetuoso4271 Жыл бұрын
@@FischerFan I agree with you, but not completely. I think it wasn't an impulse nor a one-night-stand. The way they dared to believe in a true chance to be happy caused all the anger afterwards and the struggle between blaming the other or taking responsibility. The test of love for all of us. That which is love remains and brings out good in us, leaving us good memories, experiences, lessons and a good taste. That which isn't love confuses us and shows that part of us, we would all rather leave denied forever.

They were all messed up in their own way. And because their paths crossed they became better people. It was a heavy subject with good acting. Thought the grin they made him do at the very end was goofy, made no sense to me...but, I am glad for the ending other than that, lol! P.S. the cousin should have gotten in a heap of trouble in my book. Bad influence.

Too dark, too slow. Too many nonsensical plot holes. After she missed the bus the first night, why didn't he DRIVE her home??? She didn't have to stay at his place. Doesn't he have a car??? A license?? Feels slapped together in service of titilating premise.

I read some comments here and I'm wondering if it's the same movie we all see. He obviously cheated but I wouldn't kill him seeing as it all happened. And with a minor well he didn't know about that, she lied indirectly by producing an ID that says she's 21 or 20. I'm not escusing him but I won't crucify him either.

Then after saving her life the charges arent dropped and your lawyer is about to win your case. You tell him to go easy on her??? He really didn't care abt his freedom. Another thing that blew me was how he gave up his marriage for a unknown chick/one night stand. 😂😂😂 i really think he was gonna wait another year for her.

This movie is a complete joke! It manipulates its viewers making you think there’s going to be Justice. The lead man cheats on his wife because she doesn’t stroke his fragile ego about his failure movie. He finds a vulnerable teenage girl who looks at him with doting eyes. Doesn’t bother to ever ask her for her age because you know “she’s got to be 18.”. Which honestly how does that make it any better? What business does a middle aged man have with an 18 year old. That’s his daughter age! He is sick. Fortunately for the victim of this film , she has an incredible father in law enforcement and he goes to bat for her making sure that man has to face up to what he did. Her dad fights and gets the case to court -but the movie takes a sick twist and begins to villainize her father for caring too much! They have the dad stand trial for the man he’s charging and defend the man that took advantage of his minor daughter. I knew at that point this movie was going to be garbage. And don’t get me started on his pathetic wife. You would think his wife would be laughing at the karma he’s getting for cheating on her and now having to fight a statutory rape charge but nope! Her pathetic ass starts collecting evidence to defend him! And then the movie ends with them back together. He tells her “oh I was just mad that you didn’t care about the flop film I was making and she tells him she loves him. Cut the bullshit your husband is a predator who is attracted to underage girls! He needs to be locked up. This movie glamorized predatory relationship. The only good thing to come out of this movie was that old predator became a convicted rapist!
